Antique Renaissance Dining Chairs
Antique Renaissance dining chairs look great in today's homes! We buy many antique French Renaissance chairs from Europe and bring them back to the USA. Our customers are so delighted that they send us pictures of how amazing the chairs look in their dining rooms. For example, these antique Renaissance dining room chairs dating to 1900 feature regal lion carvings and metal handles and they look terrific around our customer Susan's dining room table in Metamora, IL. See more in my Renaissance Dining room blog post here.
If you don't know this style, you can check out our full description of the Renaissance Revival style of furniture on our website. But as a quick guide, the original Renaissance era dates to 15th century Italy, when furniture and architecture was inspired by the classical arts of ancient Rome and Greece. The Renaissance Revival style then flourished again in 19th century France, when the newly wealthy middle class wanted large, ornate and heavily carved furniture. These pieces have a dignified opulence, and they are perfect for people who enjoy comfortable but noble decor.
Renaissance Excellence
Here is another great example of four antique French Renaissance dining chairs in our customer Iris' home in Texas. The brass handles on the chairs create a nice silhouette and the spindles set in the backs of the chairs also make a decorative statement. Here's a better view of the beautifully carved chair backs.
This shows you just how handsome the chairs look when your guests sit down for dinner! The oak chairs are carved in the Renaissance Henry II style, which is is very regal, emphasizing classical symmetry in details like arches, columns and finials. If you like this look, my post called What is the Renaissance Henry II Style of Antique Furniture? is a must-see!
Rich surface decoration in upholstery as well is in carvings is also a feature of Renaissance style dining chairs. We love the way our set of six French Renaissance dining chairs look in our customer Lenore's dining room in Sapphire, NC. The vintage chairs were made around 1930 and they are beautifully upholstered in red and cream brocade. The spiral turning on the oak legs adds another decorative detail. See more about the Vintage Renaissance chairs in Lenore's charming country cottage.
