Antique French Brittany Buffet
We delivered an antique French Brittany buffet to our customers in Charleston, SC, last month. Debbie and Drew visited our Gallery recently as their daughter attends Bob Jones University in Greenville, and Newberry is on the way home to Charleston on I-26. They both immediately fell in love with many of the pieces in our Gallery but their lower ceilings prevented them from buying many of the pieces they loved. However, Debbie found a very beautiful antique Brittany buffet that is on the diminutive side. It fit exactly on a wall in her kitchen and was the perfect piece to display her Jadeite Fire King collection.
The Jadeite Fire King collection was made by Anchor Hocking in the 1940s. Debbie says that she first saw the Jadeite dishes on Martha Stewart's show and she just loved the jade green color so she started collecting it couple of years ago. “Most of my finding has been in various antique shops around South Carolina,” said Debbie. “I actually found some measuring cups in your town before we came into your shop and purchase the buffet. I don't have a large collection of the Jadeite, but am always on the lookout to add to my collection.”
When she sent us the photos of the buffet in her home, she added “We love it!”
Antique Excellence
We think it looks wonderful too! The antique Brittany buffet is heavily carved with scenes of French village life on the doors.
It is topped with a ship’s wheel which is a traditional symbol carved on Brittany style furniture as a tribute to French province's maritime history.
Debbie loves ornate furniture and also stained glass lamps and unique light fixtures as you can see from these photos.
We were especially grateful to Debbie as she loves to cook and makes everything from scratch with organic ingredients. She made us each our own loaf of cinnamon bread and had it piping hot right out of the oven to give to us after we delivered the buffet! Of course, we ate both loaves right away and hardly waited for them to cool down - they were delicious! We hope we'll be able to visit Debbie and Drew again - that bread was phenomenal! 🙂
