EuroLux Antiques Announces EuroLux Home

We have some exciting news to share. Greg and I are doing so much business these days with antique-inspired new furniture, we have decided to expand our collection and broaden our name to EuroLux Home.

Ambella Home furniture at EuroLux HomeThe new name reflects the fact that we offer much more than just antiques now. We do of course still have our personally selected antique furniture that we bring from Europe. But now, in addition to EuroLux Antiques at our website, you’ll find an even greater range of EuroLux Home finely crafted high-quality new furniture and home décor accents. We have heirloom-quality furniture for every room in the house!

We are just as choosy about the antique-inspired new furniture as we are about our century-old French furniture. We only stock creations by the finest furniture craftspeople. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular items that our customers love from our collections at EuroLuxHome.com.

The stunning fireplace above is one of many Ambella Home fireplaces we supply. Intricately carved detail on the cast stone Ambella Home Brookstone fireplace is accented by a luscious black fossil stone top. Many people know Ambella Home as the company that made sink chests popular. We have many Ambella Home sink chests in our online store, including the gorgeous WInslow sink chest below, boasting a golden agate fossil stone counter and etched brass details. It looks like a real antique chest, doesn’t it? Ambella Home sink chest at EuroLux Home Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture is beautifully hand-crafted using the same techniques as original antique English and French furniture. I blogged about Jonathan Charles furniture a while ago, including a video showing how these pieces are painstakingly crafted.
Jonathan Charles chairs at EuroLux HomeThese ladderback Jonathan Charles dining chairs in traditional Country Farmhouse style have wowed our customers this summer. They are crafted in walnut and the nice details and rich finish make it easy to see why they are such a hit!

Mahogany Partners Desk at EuroLux HomeFinally, this amazing new partners desk is a superb example of the new antique-inspired furniture designed with Old World flair. The oval desk is crafted in rich flame mahogany and it features a decorative banded inlay and three hand-tooled leather panels on the desk surface. Packed with classic elegance to blend with your traditional decor, the new partners desk in our online gallery impresses everyone who sees it. The reasonable price impresses them too!

Things We Love Right Now – July 2013

We hope that when our customers buy fine antique furniture, vintage home decor accents, and high-quality reproductions from EuroLuxAntiques.com, those treasures will become family heirlooms! Heirloom pieces always have a story to tell, and they add so much character to a home. Greg’s parents John and Kathy have been hunting out their own family heirlooms to share with us.

Family Heirloom chairJohn's childhood chair used as a plow

John is our genius accountant and gallery greeter, and this child’s chair once belonged to his paternal grandfather. It is about 130 years old and was originally a rocker. As a child, John had a lot of fun turning the chair upside down and using it as a “plow.” Farming was what he knew, so farming was part of his play! You can see how the finials on the top and the ends of the arms are worn down due to his diligent farmhand efforts.

German enamelware coffee setThis German enamelware coffee set was purchased in Germany in about 1954 by John’s dad, who was in the military. (John followed in dad’s footsteps, and flew P3 Orions in the US Navy.) Supposedly, the coffee set was an antique already when John’s father bought it as a gift for John’s mom.

Family Heirloom Walking CaneThis handsome walking cane belonged to John’s great-great-grandfather, John William Talbott, who was born in Kentucky in 1831. His initials are engraved in the top of the handle, making it a very personal family heirloom. I bet this cane has some stories to tell about the places it’s been and the changes it’s seen over more than a century.

Family heirloom Bavarian cream pitcherKathy is our Director of Restoration Services. She’s a wizard at rewiring our vintage chandeliers, touching up furniture and restoring ceramics! This pretty cream pitcher belonged to Kathy’s maternal grandmother who said her family brought it to America when they came over from Germany. It’s marked ‘Bavaria’ on the bottom. Obviously Kathy’s grandmother treasured it. “She had it and took special care of it as long as I can remember,” says Kathy.

Confederate BondThis Confederate Bond is also a family heirloom from Kathy’s grandmother. “It was kept in her cedar chest and she would take it out and show it to me when I was a child,” says Kathy. Grandma promised Kathy that she could have it when she grew up. And so it came true! Although it was just a folded piece of paper when Kathy received it, she had the Confederate Bond mounted and framed when she lived in Florida in about 1968.

Family heirloom chest of drawers made by a member of Kathy's familySomeone in Kathy’s maternal grandfather’s family made this chest of drawers. Kathy recalls it in her grandparents’ bathroom as far back as she can remember. They used it to hold towels and other linen, and the small drawers at the top were dusty with bath powder. The chest of drawers continues to be a very special piece of furniture to Kathy.

Do you have a family heirloom that you especially treasure? Tell us about it in the comment box below!

Bookshelf: French Accents, Artful Decor, Heirloom Style

I always enjoy seeing how creative our customers are in combining antique and vintage furnishings into their artful decor, whether they live in a cottage, a townhouse, or an urban apartment. Everyone adds their own personal touch, often mingling different eras and styles. When you bring together pieces you love, no matter how eclectic your tastes, the love will always shine through. These new books are packed with inspiration to create a welcoming home that is utterly unique to your vision.

French Accents: At Home with Parisian Objects and Details

We're definitely at home with Parisian objects at EuroLuxAntiques.com!Oh yes, we’re definitely at home with Parisian objects at EuroLuxAntiques.com! Author and stylist Erin Swift illustrates ways to add a dash of French charm and sophistication to your home, and I’m delighted that she mentions the popularity of antique furnishings in French interior design, even for hip youngsters and for homes with a more contemporary focus. As Swift writes: “Antiques aren’t just for amateur historians, and art isn’t just for collectors.” We’ve seen this eclectic approach on our antiques buying trips in Europe, and maybe that’s why French style enjoys a reputation for a certain “je ne sais quoi.” Parisians have the design confidence to select the artful decor objects they love, combining styles and eras, and present their vision with a “voilà!” Our American customers enjoy that confident flair of individuality too, as you can see in our client spotlights.

Artful Decoration

This new book explores how to combine classic looks with whimsical details to create that extra oomph of originality in your homeAndrew Fisher and Jeffry Weisman explore how to combine classic looks with whimsical details to create that extra oomph of originality in your home. I notice that many rooms photographed for the book feature stunning lighting features, from ornate chandeliers to eye-catching lamps. We’re certainly fans of fabulous lighting and we always snap up our favorite chandeliers for EuroLuxAntiques.com, from Gothic to Rococo to Renaissance Revival to just “we thought this vintage piece was gorgeous, however you want to label it.” Lighting sets the mood for any room, as I mentioned in my three tips to light a home beautifully.

Heirloom Modern: Homes filled with objects bought, bequeathed, beloved, and worth handing down

We're passionate about heirloom pieces too! This book shows how antique furnishings look great in any style of homeAuthor Hollister Hovey and her photographer sister Porter are clearly our soul mates in their passion for heirloom pieces and artful decor. They show how antique and vintage furniture and accents can be beautifully integrated into any style of home, to create a sense of history and reflect the unique personality of the home-owner. With so many different people’s decor photographed for the book, I wonder if any of our customers are featured in it? I’ll have to study all the photos and see if I can spot a treasure from EuroLuxAntiques.com!

Things We Love Right Now – December 2012

Did you have a good turkey day? We enjoyed a fun family holiday at home. Then, right after Thanksgiving, Greg and I ran away to Hot Springs, North Carolina, for a quiet weekend before the busy season. As you can see below, we had a wonderful time there!

We came back in time to enjoy our local holiday parade. Newberry, South Carolina, puts on quite a show! People enjoyed our large gallery window, “decorated” by two of our gallery cats, Lenny and Minky. Therese put up a tree in the window and decorated it with her collection of antique fans, scarves, and gloves. Even her Great Aunt’s shoes made it into the vignette!

Things We Love

With the festive season well upon us, all of us here at EuroLux are reflecting on what we love in December. Last month, we introduced you to Greg’s mom, Kathy, who repairs items that arrive damaged in the cargo containers from Europe. Here’s a photo of Kathy at work. Later this month, she’ll share some tips with you on how you can fix any of your ceramics that get broken during the holidays.

Kathy says one of her favorite things about December is decorating for the holidays. She creates an elaborate mantel display using magnolia leaves, not unlike the magnolia wreath below.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the holidays without gifts. Greg loves giving and receiving presents. This year, he’s hoping for a Fender Squier guitar to connect to our Xbox. Greg and I like to unwind by rocking out to the game Rockband. I sing, while Greg plays drums and guitar.

As for me, one thing I love about December is the flurry of holiday cards that arrive in the mailbox. I love both writing and receiving cards. It helps me re-connect with old friends I may only hear from once a year.

I love the colorful display the cards make, whether piled in a wicker basket or artfully arranged on the mantel. In keeping with this theme, I’ll be sharing some information this month about how color and antique furniture can work together to create a unique look for your home. I’ll also be writing about antique furniture as legacy — a theme that’s especially appropriate during this holiday season when we miss those family members no longer with us to celebrate. How fortunate we can fill our homes with heirlooms that remind us of these loved ones every day of the year.

Also coming up this month, I’ll be alerting you to some new decorating trends (antique furniture makes House Beautiful’s “What’s Hot in 2013” list!), sharing some books you might find useful, and spotlighting one of our valued clients.

The main thing we love during December is YOU. We love your emails and phone calls. And we sincerely value your business.

What things do you love about December or the holiday season, in general?
