Client Spotlight: Antique Saddle Leather Settee

After we sold a newly crafted leather settee to Susan R. in Rocky River, OH, I was delighted when she sent a photo of the sofa in her home. The antique saddle leather settee is one of the most popular pieces in our large selection of new leather settees and sofas, and it always looks wonderful whenever we see client photos of it. It blends with many different styles of decor and its graceful lines bring a lovely sense of elegance into any room.

Leather settee

Here’s the antique saddle leather settee. With its handsome looks and high-quality craftsmanship. It’s perfect for an entryway or as seating in your dining room or living room. The settee is sturdily crafted with a solid birch wood frame finished with a rich dark walnut stain that is applied by hand. The settee is upholstered with antiqued saddle brown split grain leather which works beautifully with the walnut finish. A hand-applied nailhead trim highlights the refined lines.

Here is the settee in Susan’s home. Susan asked me to hold shipping as she was about to take off on a European adventure for two months. I was happy to oblige and made sure the settee arrived just after the world-traveler returned home. I love the artwork surrounding the settee – what a cozy spot to read a few letters or chat on the phone!

Thank you for sending the photo of the leather settee, Susan. We hope it gives you many years of comfort!

Client Spotlight: Hand-Painted Mantle Clock Made In America

When our customer Fredrick A. in Hartwell, GA, bought a new hand-painted mantle clock from us created by OK Casting, he didn’t just love the style of the clock, he also appreciated the fact that the clock was made in America.

These custom-made clocks, along with other OK Casting products, are hand-made and painted at the time of order. It’s a custom-made product and each one is going to be unique! The high-quality new clock has a battery-operated quartz movement and it is cast in a resin that looks fantastically authentic.

Here you can see the mantle clock on Fredrick’s mantle. It looks so warm and inviting and we love the Christmas stockings hanging above the cozy fire!  This looks like a great place to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas!

Army Veteran Fredrick said: ” The clock is absolutely beautiful. I also love the fact that the clock was made right here in America and built by Americans, I will cherish this clock for decades to come and I am super proud to display it on my mantle.”

That’s awesome! We are so delighted to hear that, Fredrick, and thank you for sending us the photo of the OK Casting clock in your wonderful home.

In addition to clocks, OK Casting offers many delightfully designed home accessories. Client Spotlight: Antique Art Nouveau Buffet

We were delighted to have an unusual antique Art Nouveau buffet in our gallery, and we were even more delighted that it found such a great home!

Kevin and Candice in Summerville, SC, had been looking for years for the perfect piece to put in the hallway of their new home by the South Carolina coast. Kevin reports that Candice is normally slow to decide on big purchases, so he didn’t expect to find anything when they stopped in our EuroLux Home antiques store in Newberry. However, when Candice spotted the gorgeous Art Nouveau buffet, she stopped in her tracks.

French antique Art Nouveau Buffet

It was the right size and the right color of walnut to match with their collection of Arts and Crafts furniture. It didn’t take Candice very long at all to decide this was exactly the right piece – taking Kevin completely by surprise! Doesn’t it look wonderful in their home?

Antique French Art Nouveau Buffet

We don’t see Art Nouveau buffets very often, as the style was only prominent from approximately 1890 to 1910 before the Art Deco style swept the scene. The Art Nouveau style of furniture is quite feminine and pretty. It features organic motifs, such as flowers, vines, leaves, or fruit, and it is especially known for dramatic curves and swirls. The focus was on craftsmanship as a reaction against growing industrialization and mass production at the end of the 19th century. These rare pieces are especially beautiful and the patina of the walnut on this particular Art Nouveau buffet is just stunning.

vintage Louis XV French Country dining chairs

Kevin and Candice also picked out this set of pretty vintage Louis XV French Country dining chairs for the dining room off the hallway. The vintage chairs date to 1930. The charming chairs are crafted in oak wood and they are upholstered in yellow gold velveteen. The Louis XV chairs boast a delicately shaped back with sweet and subtle carving as well as lovely French cabriole legs.

vintage Rococo chandelier

Finally, Kevin and Candice chose a dramatic vintage French Rococo chandelier to light up the entryway. The 10-light metal chandelier dates to around 1950 and it is lavishly adorned with the decorative embellishments and curvy bracket arms that you’d expect from the Rococo style. What a pretty sight it will all make when the chandelier is hung!

Thank you Kevin and Candice for sending the photos of the antique Art Nouveau buffet in your lovely home. We hope it brings you many years of joy!

Client Spotlight: Vintage Chair in Home Office

Many people buy antique and vintage chairs for their dining rooms, but a single vintage chair is a wonderful addition to a home office too. An antique or vintage chair looks superb in your office, study, writing studio or other work space, whether you have a traditional office decor or a more eclectic look in your study. Our customer William in Knoxville, TN, proves the point.
Vintage Leather Renaissance ChairWilliam bought this lovely French vintage dining chair or accent chair from us to team with an antique desk he already owned.

The vintage chair from France is designed in the Renaissance  Henry II style and it dates to 1930. The chair still boasts its original brown leather upholstery on the back of the chair, embossed with a flourishing floral design. The bottom seat cushion had already been reupholstered.

This nicely carved chair has attractive detailing on the legs and nail head trim on the brown leather upholstery. It looks very regal and the traditional style is great for William’s home.

Vintage Chair in Home Office Study

Here is the chair paired with William’s very handsome French Renaissance antique desk.  The combination of aged wood and leather really creates a lovely luxurious and traditional atmosphere in a room. You will notice that the embossed leather on the vintage chair at the desk ties in with the leather arm chair and the two leather sofas. I love the color of those blue leather sofas! The wood-framed fireplace also looks wonderful and William’s statues and figurines adorning the space create elegant decorative accents.

William’s study looks like a very welcoming place to write letter or curl up and read books on a rainy day!

Often we have antique and vintage chairs available in singles as well as sets, and the single chairs are well-priced. We also have pairs of chairs available, so you can buy one for your own desk chair and another for your clients or visitors. It looks very cool and unusual to have a genuine antique or vintage chair from France in your work space and it’s a great conversation starter!

Client Spotlight: Louis Philippe Sideboard

Rod and Vicki F. in Centerton, AR, sent some spectacular photos of the new Louis Philippe sideboard they bought from us. The Louis Philippe sideboard is crafted in solid wood with a wonderful dark rustic pecan finish.  It is made by one of the most reliable furniture makers that we work with and their prices are very reasonable. Here’s a photo of the sideboard:

Sideboard Philippe Dark Rustic PecanWith four doors and four drawers, the sideboard provides plenty of storage. You will also notice the wonderful French cremone hardware that gives this piece an authentic French accent! The sideboard measures nearly eight feet long at 93 inches long, so it is quite an impressive piece of furniture as well as a very practical one.

Rod and Vicki say they are thrilled with the sideboard. That lovely leather chair looks like a perfect spot to curl up with a bourbon and a good book in front of the fire!

Sideboard Louis Philippe

In general the Louis Philippe style is quite unfussy and with little ornamentation, but it puts the emphasis on the beauty of the wood and its grain, especially darker woods. The style harks back to the 19th century, and the reign of Louis Philippe between 1830 to 1848. The simpler lines create a sense of subtle and refined luxury. The Louis Philippe style works perfectly in Rod and Vicki’s home.  I love their wood floors and how beautifully the wood furniture and leather chairs and ottoman work with the flooring. It all looks very smart and luxurious but also welcoming and relaxed.

Thanks Rod and Vicki and we hope you continue to enjoy your Louis Philippe sideboard!

Our customers Ken and Bettyann in Nantick, MA, sent us some great photos of the Scarborough House bookcases they bought from us.  The bookcases were custom-produced so they took some time to be made. Then came the day that the bookcases were delivered to Ken and Bettyann.

Client Spotlight: Antique French Brittany Buffet with Jadeite Fire King

We delivered an antique French Brittany buffet to our customers in Charleston, SC, last month. Debbie and Drew visited our Gallery recently as their daughter attends Bob Jones University in Greenville, and Newberry is on the way home to Charleston on I-26. They both immediately fell in love with many of the pieces in our Gallery but their lower ceilings prevented them from buying many of the pieces they loved. However, Debbie found a very beautiful antique Brittany buffet that is on the diminutive side. It fit exactly on a wall in her kitchen and was the perfect piece to display her Jadeite Fire King collection.

Antique French Brittany Buffet with Jadeite Fire King

The Jadeite Fire King collection was made by Anchor Hocking in the 1940s. Debbie says that she first saw the Jadeite dishes on Martha Stewart’s show and she just loved the jade green color so she started collecting it couple of years ago. “Most of my finding has been in various antique shops around South Carolina,” said Debbie. “I actually found some measuring cups in your town before we came into your shop and purchase the buffet. I don’t have a large collection of the Jadeite, but am always on the lookout to add to my collection.”

Antique French Brittany BuffetWhen she sent us the photos of the buffet in her home, she added “We love it!”

We think it looks wonderful too! The antique Brittany buffet is heavily carved with scenes of French village life on the doors.

It is topped with a ship’s wheel which is a traditional symbol carved on Brittany style furniture as a tribute to French province’s maritime history.

Debbie loves ornate furniture and also stained glass lamps and unique light fixtures as you can see from these photos.

Antique French Brittany Buffet in the kitchen diner

We were especially grateful to Debbie as she loves to cook and makes everything from scratch with organic ingredients. She made us each our own loaf of cinnamon bread and had it piping hot right out of the oven to give to us after we delivered the buffet! Of course, we ate both loaves right away and hardly waited for them to cool down – they were delicious! We hope we’ll be able to visit Debbie and Drew again – that bread was phenomenal! 🙂

Client Spotlight: Antique Chinese Wedding Bed

We imported this exquisite antique Chinese wedding bed to the USA in 2012…. it had previously inhabited a home schedule for demolition so it was wonderful to have the chance to give the Chinese wedding bed a new life! It was finally purchased by our customer Dongming in Greenville, SC, so it has landed in a place very different to its origins in the Zhejiang Province in Eastern China!

Antique Chinese Wedding Bed

Dongming and his daughter had driven to Columbia for the day and were on their way home to Greenville, when his daughter decided she really wanted to eat at Arby’s. They got off I-26 at Newberry, and while looking for Arby’s, they ended up on Main Street. Dongming decided he wanted to stop in some antiques shops, which is how he made his way to our EuroLux Home antiques store. He is a professor of Asian Studies, specializing in Chinese literature, so when he saw the antique Chinese wedding bed in our Gallery, he stopped in his tracks! He knew exactly what it was and also knew it would fit in his master bedroom. To top it all off, it was his birthday – so of course, he took it as a sign that it was fate and he was supposed to purchase the beautiful bed!

antique Chinese wedding bed

The Late Qing Dynasty antique Chinese wedding bed in red lacquered pine dates to around 1900 and it is very ornamental and ornate. Antique Chinese wedding beds like this were once used by royalty, and were often called “Eight Step Beds.”  It is divided into two areas, one for sleeping and the other for placing shoes and personal items as you get ready for bed. A Chinese wedding bed was actually used like an entire bedroom and Chinese women spent most of their time eating, embroidering, socializing, and sleeping in this area.

Greg and I were out of town at the furniture market in North Carolina when Dongming purchased the bed, and we already had deliveries scheduled for the following week in Georgia. However, Dongming was leaving to take a group of students on a study abroad tour in China for the summer and he really wanted to have the bed delivered prior to his departure.

antique Chinese wedding bed in partsI stayed up until 4 am the night before the delivery in order to get all 50 pieces of the bed cleaned, waxed, and ready to be delivered, but I made it happen!

The bed comes apart in about 50 pieces and is completely held together with tenon and mortise joints – no hardware at all! This is a photo of about half of the bed pieces.

It took about two hours to reassemble it in Dongming’s home, but it looks great! The bed features various carvings of people and traditional Chinese symbols, gilded with a very fine layer of gold.

antique Chinese wedding bedDongming is planning to use the Late Qing Dynasty bed on a daily basis, so this very beautiful bed will continue to be loved and cherished. We’re so glad the superb antique Chinese wedding bed was saved and it found a new home!

Customer’s Newberry Cam Davis Mansion and Antiques in Magazine

One of our most popular customer spotlights gave a tour inside Tamra’s Classic Newberry Mansion, complete with antique furniture purchased from us at EuroLuxHome.com.  So, we were delighted to come across a feature about Tamra’s home in Columbia Living Magazine: The Summer House. The article talked about some of the furniture Tamra purchased from us and we found out some new facts about Tamra’s house. Here is the update!

This is Tamra’s beautiful Greco-Roman mansion in Downtown Newberry, SC. It is so splendid it is hard to believe that at one time the house was at risk of being torn down because it was in such poor repair. Tamra and previous owners have put a lot of work into restoring it to its original glory when it was built in the 1890s!  Outside of Newberry House

According to the Columbia Living Magazine article, the house was originally owned by John Harrison “Hack” Summer, hence the name “The Summer House.”  It was built by Newberry contractor C. C. Davis, more often known as Cam Davis. A native of North Carolina, Cam Davis came to Newberry in 1884 to build the Newberry Cotton Mill. He went on to build many well-known residences, public buildings and churches in Newberry between 1884 and 1916. Pair of antique Mechelen buffetsWe discovered from the magazine article that The Summer House was designed by a 16-year-old. It’s amazing to think that such a young man could design this amazing neoclassical mansion! Craftsmen worked on the house in Newberry during the winter because in the summer they were working on the famous Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina. The magazine article drew attention to the pair of antique Mechelen buffets flanking the entryway. These are two of the pieces Tamra bought from us.

Antique Mechelen Buffet

The article praised the heavily-carved cabinets’ “beautiful woodwork and stained glass insets.” The carving and stained glass are typical of Mechelen furniture, as you can see in my blog post What is Mechelen Style Antique Furniture?

Antique French Table Chairs dining room

The formal dining room also received attention in the article, which made us happy as Tamra bought the French Country Louis XV extending refectory table in walnut from us, as well as two sets of antique French Hunting chairs dating to the 1880s. The article reads: One of their favorite rooms in the home is the formal dining room. “We’re not finished in this space, but we’ve got the parquet French walnut table with the French thrones as a centerpiece. There is really beautiful woodwork on the queens,” Tamra said.

It’s wonderful to find out more about this beautiful house that Tamra has decorated so elegantly. You can read the full Columbia Living Magazine article here and also see more photos of the room interiors and antique furniture in my original blog post: Antique French Furniture in Classic Newberry Mansion.
