Client Spotlight: Our Antique French Chairs on Ozark TV Show

We recently had the pleasure of selling a set of antique French chairs to the production set of the Ozark TV show, meaning that our antique chairs will be seen on screen!

The chairs will be used in the third season of the Netflix series, and we have been told that the stars of the show, Laura Linney and Jason Bateman, will sit in them. We were pretty excited to hear this because Greg and I just love Ozark.

So, here’s how it happened. We’ve been getting quite a few calls from T.V. and movie production people needing antique furniture for their film sets. The Ozark set designer found us online and called up, asking if we ever rented antiques for filming purposes. We said we were open to it, and then she told me the name of the show. Wow!

antique French Henry II dining chairs

These are the chairs they wanted, a set of twelve antique French Renaissance Henry II dining chairs. They were made in France around the year 1900, and the chairs are crafted in walnut wood and embossed leather in the elegant Renaissance Henry II style.

The embossed leather was just beautiful, adding both visual and textural interest to these handsome dining chairs.

Usually the producers would just rent the furniture on a weekly basis, but in this case they needed to keep the antique chairs for several months, so they decided to buy them outright.

You can imagine how much we were looking forward to delivering the chairs. We were definitely going to make this delivery ourselves! So, we loaded up the van and headed off to Doraville, Georgia, where the show is filmed. We had to deliver them to the props warehouse, which is devoted solely to the Ozark show and full of props used in filming the show.

Ozark TV Show Set Props Warehouse

The attendant explained to us that they have to keep all the props they’ve used in the first two seasons in the warehouse, just in case they need to do a flashback in time or film a memory scene. They might have to recreate the same sets used even in previous seasons, so all the props are kept safely in storage.

The delivery itself was uneventful. We were really hoping to run into Jason Bateman and Laura Linney.  Jason Bateman is one of our favorite actors. If you’ve never seen Extract, The Switch, or The Break-Up, you must watch them! We just love his deadpan humor. But alas, we didn’t see any actors. It was just a warehouse.

Of course Greg and I usually make a bit of a holiday out of deliveries as we use them as an excuse to get out of the office. Greg is a big Braves fan, so we made sure the delivery coincided with a Braves game at the new stadium.

We are very sad to find out that the third season of Ozark will actually be the last! The third season premiere date is still unknown, but whenever it is, you can be sure that we will be watching each scene with a keen eye looking for our antique French chairs!

Kittens on the Doorstep

Back in May, I came home from teaching yoga and found three little kittens on my doorstep! As you may already know, we have a zoo; we’re up to three dogs, including Ernie the rambunctious Great Dane puppy, and five crazy cats – all of which are rescues.

I also have my “feline soup kitchen” which is where I feed all of the strays in the neighborhood on my front sidewalk. One of my “soup kitchen” recipients, a feral calico with a bobbed tail who I’ve nicknamed Bob (short for Roberta), decided that I was such a kind-hearted woman that she’d bring her three kittens and leave them on my doorstep! We actually have a sculpture of an Eiffel tower next to the front door and they were hiding out under the tower. Did the Universe really want me to have three more cats?!

Bob continued to hang out with the kittens by the front door so we put out food and water. When we saw that the kittens were eating solid food, I caught them and gave them baths as they were completely covered in fleas. We took them to our EuroLux Home antiques gallery on Main Street in Newberry, South Carolina, where we kept them isolated from the rest of the gang as they had not yet had immunizations. We began giving them lots of love to socialize them with humans and within a few days, you would have never known they were born feral!

Greg kept them in his office and they continually knocked his pens to the ground and scattered all of the paper on his desk. He gave them bad reviews as co-workers!

We began posting photos of them on Facebook to see if someone would give them a good home and our friend Amy, who has a farm, admitted she has a soft spot in her heart for ginger kittens. She couldn’t decide which orange kitten she liked best, so we offered a package deal – if she took both we’d pay for the shots and the neutering! Now Milo and Bo have a very happy home with a little boy named Fisher who loves them very much!

As for the little black female, she bewitched Greg with her wiles and she now has a home with us. Her name is Izzy (short for Isabelle) and she joins Ozzy, Fozzy, and Minkey at the Gallery. Lenny and Squiggy live at our house as Lenny prefers not be around cats. Nine animals now – we are truly a zoo!

Jonathan Charles Buckingham Regency Dining Table -183-5This Regency style Buckingham table is newly crafted by Jonathan Charles, but we’re sneaking it in to show how a high-quality new reproduction table can be a beautiful choice! (Item number JC-183) It’s a very versatile extending table, expanding with a self-storing leaf from seating 8, to seating 10, so you have space for everyone at the feast!  But the reason you’ll fall in love with it is for its sheer good looks. The Buckingham table is based on an original English Regency design from 1820, and it is crafted using the same traditional techniques used by furniture makers for centuries. The handsome crotch mahogany veneer and majestic twin pedestal baluster bases make this an exceptional table.

Vintage Delft Vase 22-294Our new arrivals also included many beautiful Blue Delft vases and ginger jars.

We chose these when we were buying antiques in Europe because they are so timelessly elegant, and the classic blue and white designs are a breath of fresh air.

This is one of our favorites:  a vintage 1950 hand-painted Delft vase from Holland, marked Ram. (Item number 22-294.) A perfect example of European refinement and originating in Holland, the Delft vase is elegant both in its shape and in its rich blue and white/cream design of flowers. The hand-painted blue floral pattern is elegant and pretty, and the shape of the vase or jar is quite unusual for Delft.  The result? A gorgeous vase to take pride of place on a console table in your living room, hallway, foyer or bedroom.

We were also delighted to unpack several boxes of religious treasures after their long journey across the Atlantic from Europe!  I’m selecting a Madonna figure to show you, to mark the recent Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in August. This exceptional antique French chalkware statue of the Madonna, stands more than 3 feet tall, with lovely colors and details.

Client Spotlight: Vintage Renaissance Console Table

Our customers Mary and Phil returned to our EuroLux antiques store in Newberry to pick out a vintage console table to go beneath a hand-painted antique trumeau mirror that Mary had found at an auction house.  The couple had previously bought an antique buffet from us and a pair of Italian floor lamps for their beautiful chateau style home, as you can see in my previous blog post: Client Spotlight: Antique French Country Louis XVI Buffet.

Delivering vintage console to customer home

We were very happy to revisit their home to deliver the console table they chose. Here is the front of the house. We certainly admired the gorgeous stone exterior, however the photo doesn’t actually give a sense of how large the interior space is. Much like a French chateau, Phil and Mary have built a labyrinth into the side of a hill and this photo only shows the second and third stories. The entire lower level is built into the hillside.

Here is the French Renaissance style vintage console table or sideboard that the couple chose for the entryway. They bought it from us to go beneath the very large, antique, hand-painted trumeau mirror that Mary discovered at an auction house.  The mirror still needs to be hung, but we propped it up on the console table just to get the effect and to snap a photo. The ceilings are so high, but I captured just a bit of the beautiful antique wrought iron fixture hanging above it.

With your back to the console table, you look through another arch into the dining room so that diners will be able to see themselves in the trumeau while enjoying Phil and Mary’s hospitality!  Mary had just hung the handsome and huge antique iron chandelier over the antique dining table. A pair of antique hunting paintings and antique Louis XV sconces add to the feel of the chateau.  The carvings on the console table work well with the heavily carved antique Renaissance dining room chairs. The chairs are scheduled for re-upholstery with new fabric soon and one chair is lying on the floor in the photo as Phil asked for our instruction on how to tighten the joints of all of the chairs. This is a dynamic DIY duo for sure!

Traditional Bathroom

During the tour of their lovely home, I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of Mary’s amazing soaking tub in the master bathroom with a gorgeous view of the woods behind their home. I am truly jealous of that tub!

During this second delivery, Phil mentioned that he was now searching for a pair of thrones to sit in front of the huge stone fireplace in the living room. We’ve sent photos by email and hope we’ll be delivering the antique hunting thrones soon so that we can take more photos of this amazing chateau that Phil and Mary have built with such love and dedication. Meanwhile, the vintage console table has found the perfect home!

Client Spotlight: Antique French Country Louis XVI Buffet

When we delivered an antique French Country Louis XVI Buffet to our customers Mary and Phil, we had no idea what a great treat we were in for while touring their chateau-style home! Read on and see for yourself.

We met Phil and Mary in our antiques store in Newberry. They came to find a buffet to function as a dresser between two closets in their master bedroom. Mary explained they have been building their dream chateau over the past ten years and they are finally starting to pull it all together. They had very specific dimensions and wanted a beautiful antique buffet in a French Country style. After measuring and remeasuring, they decided on our  gorgeous walnut Louis XVI buffet. Phil said that Mary had her eye on a pair of Italian Blackamoor floor lamps too and he wanted us to deliver those as a birthday surprise for her.

When we arrived at their gorgeous home in Greenwood, SC,, we certainly admired the gorgeous stone exterior, which looks much like a French chateau. The bottom first floor has been built into the hill beneath the home and this is the view from the back garden looking out over the lake. It is stunning! Unfortunately the fountains had already been turned off for the winter season, so we didn’t get photos. We’ll have to come make another delivery in the spring! Mary tells us she loves spending time puttering in the gardens she has built around the back side of the home.
Stone entrywayPhil greeted us at the huge solid wood door under a brick archway and showed off the huge iron bell on a rope that functions as a doorbell. It is also how he lets Mary know it is time to come in out of the garden!

Mary and Phil explained they had designed the entire home themselves based on places they had seen in France and have done much of the work themselves – including building the barrel arch supports on which the brick mason worked to create the amazing arched entry hall!

Phil thought the hand-carved and painted Venetian Blackamoors that he bought in our store would grace the entry way to the castle with their candelabra. (We still have a similar lamp number P-49 available.) Phil surprised Mary with the lamps as a gift, and they do help light up the entrance to the keep! However, on a second delivery to bring a vintage Renaissance style console table for the entry way, we found Mary had moved the Blackamoor lamps to either side of the grand stone fireplace. I didn’t actually capture the entire fireplace because it is so tall!

Blackamoor lamps

And here is the antique French Country Louis XVI buffet that the couple chose for their master bedroom. It fits perfectly between the two closets… just as they planned! antique French Country Louis XVI Buffet The walnut French Country style antique buffet has lovely carvings on the door fronts and pretty shaping around the upper glass door. The mirror set in the back of the buffet gives a nice sense of light and reflection. This is a great choice of buffet to repurpose as a dresser in the bedroom!

After we had delivered the Venetian lamps and the antique French Country Louis XVI buffet, Mary and Phil came back to our antiques store to choose some other furniture. Check out my next blog post titled Client Spotlight: Vintage Renaissance Console Table to see more photos of the house from that second delivery. Meanwhile, we hope you agree with us that this couple has a truly beautiful home!

Easy Living with French Country Farmhouse Style

Many of our customers love French Country Farmhouse style, whether they are buying our antique French Country furniture or newly-crafted pieces that stay true to the look. French Country Farmhouse style promises easy living all year round. In summer, the relaxed and casual feel is perfect for long hot days when we want to kick back and feel cool and close to nature. In winter, the cozy and comfortable appeal of this look ensures that you will want to snuggle up and surround yourself with family and friends… and probably lots of lovely warming food, too, as would befit a farmhouse!

This French Country Farmhouse kitchen in Louisville, KY, is a great example of the look, with the traditional rooster on the island. Roosters and chickens are typical of this rustic French decor style, and the look is also associated with good, nourishing food and a relaxed rural way of life. Family and friends are always welcome, and everything is designed to be easy to live with… distressed finishes mean that you don’t have to be precious about your furniture!

For this reason, the style is especially well-suited to kitchens and dining rooms. It’s where everyone gathers to make memories… whether you are sharing small everyday moments over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, or enjoying a lively feast for in a bigger celebration.

French Country Stool in the kitchenThis photo of our customer Stephanie C.’s kitchen in Kernersville, NC, includes a counter stool from our selection of French Country stools at EuroLuxHome.com.  The newly-crafted stool is beautifully made, with intricate wood carvings, a hand-woven rattan or rush seat, an antiqued blackwashed stain, and the curvy cabriole legs that are typical of French Country style. The silhouette of the stool looks stunning and creates exactly the right mood!

Thanks to the welcoming quality of the French Country Farmhouse style, it also looks great in an entryway or foyer. Notice the muted colors, especially the soft dusky blue which is perfect for the rustic and serene atmosphere. Also notice the combination of natural textures, with woven baskets, a throw pillow on the chair that looks like hessian or flour-sack canvas, a woven rattan seat on the chair, an open weave lampshade, and a wood planked floor.
