Client Spotlight: Vintage French Rococo Chairs

Our customer Fran P. found this beautiful set of vintage French Rococo dining chairs in our listings on Chairish, but she made the smart decision to track down our website EuroLuxHome.com and reach out to me directly for a best price! As Fran only lives about two hours from us in Concord, NC, she decided to drive down to our store in Newberry, SC, in order to pick up the chairs in person.

Vintage Rococo French Dining Chair Set

The set of 6 mahogany vintage French dining chairs dates to 1950 and the chairs are full of charming Rococo appeal. The sensuously curvy lines, the cabriole legs, and the carved curlicues on the mahogany wood frame are the perfect match for the chic pinky beige fabric upholstery. The sweet nailhead trim accents the glamorous silhouette, making these vintage Rococo French chairs a truly delicious treat as a dining room set.

Vintage French Rococo Dining Chairs

It was a real pleasure meeting Fran and her daughter, and you can see how truly wonderful the chairs look in Fran’s dining room. Fran said, “It was such a pleasure to visit, your items are beautiful, and we love our purchase!” We are pleased to have such a happy customer and we agree that this set of chairs is perfect for Fran’s dining room. The faded pink upholstery works very well with the pinks, mauves, and cranberry in her rug and she did a great job of finding such a good set of vintage chairs to blend in both color and style with her mahogany Rococo table. The gorgeous gilded Rococo mirror adds even more glam to room.

Vintage Capodimonte Chandelier ItalianFran says that she is now looking to replace the brass chandelier. I think this vintage Italian Capodimonte chandelier in our gallery would look fantastic. It  dates to 1950 and has an unusual cherub motif that is adorable. The angelic pastel pink and blue colors bring the scenes to life and the metal arms curve in a very elegant way. This relatively rare style of six-arm Italian chandelier doesn’t become available very often and so I wanted to share it with our blog readers because it is just so pretty!

New Italian Chandelier Gold CrystalsOr for even more glam, Fran could opt for this stunning new Italian Murano cut glass chandelier! The Rococo style 8-arm crystal chandelier is dramatically crafted with gold leaves and gorgeous clear glass pendants and clear glass flowers.

Fran has such good taste that I’m sure that any chandelier she chooses will be the ideal match for the vintage French Rococo chairs and her beautiful dining room.  I imagine she will host many elegant dinners in that lovely space!

Antique French Gothic BuffetThis spectacular 1870 antique French Gothic buffet will be the star of the room, intricately carved in walnut with a beautiful stained glass door. Fit for a cathedral or a castle, the magnificent Gothic buffet would make a great server when you entertain. It would make an impressive home bar too, displaying your favorite wines, spirits and liqueurs!

Carved antique buffet French Renaissance

Carved dog antique french buffet

I love this 1880 antique French Hunting buffet, carved with dogs and birds. The oak buffet stands more than 9 feet tall, crowned by a curved top crest with two birds flanking a regal shield. The detail on their carved feathers is gorgeous, as is the exquisite carving on the doors of a heron with a fish in its beak and a game bird pecking at berries.

Antique French Brittany chairsantique French brittany chair carvingThis set of 6 antique French Brittany chairs is a real conversation starter! Dating to 1880, the six chestnut chairs are carved with different images of traditionally dressed French country men and woman in the seat back.

I had to lighten these images a little so you can see the detailed carving on the seat backs. For that reason they don’t look nearly as rich as the actual aged chestnut wood. You can see detailed close-ups of all the carved characters on the antique Brittany chair listing on our website. Here is one of the guys sauntering through his rustic village just to give you an idea of the quality of the carving and the charm of the chairs! The ship wheel spindles on the crest rail honor Brittany’s maritime history.

Dale Tiffany Carnation LampFinally, this Dale Tiffany lamp is NOT an antique that just arrived on our latest container of antiques from France!

It is newly hand-crafted by Dale Tiffany artisans, inspired by an original antique Tiffany design, with each piece of glass individually crafted using the same copper-foiled technique pioneered by the glass maestro Louis Comfort Tiffany!

The Dale Tiffany carnation accent lamp will put a beautiful spot of summery color into your living room or bedroom all year round.

I’m just showing it to remind you that our discount code is valid on everything on our website.

Client Spotlight: Antique French Buffet Louis XV

Antique Buffet Louis XV Rococo 1890Melodie A. of Raja Interiors in Chico, CA, wanted to find a gorgeous, antique Louis XV buffet to place in one of her client’s homes. We went searching for the perfect piece and located this beauty in France!

It is delightfully carved with Rococo styling in walnut wood with a lovely grain and rich patina and it dates to 1890.

When we found the buffet in France, there was a crack all the way through the glass in the right upper corner of the large glass door.

Perhaps a little wrinkle is not such a surprise for a buffet that is about 120 years old! What is more surprising is that we find so many of our antique buffets with the glass still in excellent shape. Those French craftsmen made furniture to last!

broken glass

We knew we would replace that glass panel prior to shipping, but we had no idea that it would take a specialist to cut and hand-grind the bevel. We took the broken pieces to our local glass store and they explained that due to the unusual shape of the glass (it sort of resembles a paisley), their machines could not possibly cut a bevel all the way around the piece. We also didn’t want to just replace it with flat glass, as that would take away from the beauty of the buffet.

After much searching and networking, I finally located a true artist, Charles Offutt, at Artisan in Glass, in Canton, Georgia. I sent the pieces to him and he said it took an entire day to hand-grind the beveled edge of the replacement glass. He is truly a miracle-worker in glass! If I didn’t know which panel had been replaced, I would never be able to tell. Here’s the buffet with the restored glass in its new home.

French Antique Buffet 1890

Melodie was very patient during this process and she contacted me to say that she received the buffet in good condition and both she and her client are very pleased. We are always glad to hear from happy customers! At more than 8 feet tall, the antique Louis XV buffet is definitely the grand dame of the space. That white ceramic pitcher sets it off so gracefully too. You could say: “It’s pitcher perfect!” Groan…

Client Spotlight: Vintage Rococo Chandelier

As it is so very cold in many parts of the country right now, I hope that the photos of this vintage Rococo chandelier in its new home will add a little warm glow to your day! In this mid-winter time of long dark nights, a chandelier is especially lovely to bring a little sparkle into your decor.

Rococo chandelierOur client Gail L. in Denver, Colorado, recently purchased this fabulous vintage French Rococo chandelier from us. Dating to around 1950, the Rococo chandelier features a beautiful cast metal vase-shaped body with a pretty shell motif. An ornate leaf design adorns the arms.

Gail hung the chandelier in her dining room and kindly sent us some photographs, saying “”Received the beautiful chandelier today! Love it.” We love how it looks in her home too. As you can see, the 8-arm chandelier looks most impressive over Gail’s dining table. It is nearly 24 inches wide by 16 inches high so it fills the space nicely, complementing the scale and style of the large display cabinet and lavish drapes.

The brass tone finish on the vintage metal chandelier gives a warm glow against the wood cabinet, while the swirling Rococo chandelier style adds a luxurious flourish. The chandelier has a decorative ceiling cap or canopy and the round ceiling medallion is an extra nice touch. It looks like white plaster and Gail’s choice to hang the light fixture from the center of the medallion adds to the air of authenticity.

Gail has created such a delightful dining room. Every detail enhances the traditional style and sense of welcome. I love the wall clock and the prettily decorated china cabinet at the right of the photo. I imagine that the large rectangular framed mirror also reflects more light into the room, and perhaps even the eight twinkling electric candles on the chandelier!

Christmas treetTo add to our feast of lights, Gail also sent us this photo of her Christmas tree to share with you. It is so graceful and magical with its scattering of delicate white lights. Clearly Gail knows how to make the maximum use of lights in her decor to create an enticing and cozy atmosphere.

Thanks to Gail for sending photos of her lovely home – we hope the Rococo chandelier brings her the blessing of a very sparkly 2014!  If you want to create a similar look in your own home, you can see more vintage chandeliers in our gallery at this link.

Client Spotlight: Vintage Clock Makes Prestigious DC Building Tick

We were thrilled when the acclaimed Washington, DC interior designer Paul Corrie of Paul Corrie Interiors bought a beautiful vintage Louis XV Rococo style shelf clock from EuroLuxAntiques.com. We were even more thrilled when Paul featured it in his fabulous design for the entry and lobby spaces of The Dresden, one of Washington’s most prestigious condominium addresses.

This beautiful vintage Louis XV Rococo style clock from EuroLuxAntiques.com now lives in The Dresden, one of Washington DC's most prestigious condo addressesThis is the piece Paul chose from our selection of vintage clocks. You can see how ornate it is. The tortoiseshell and brass-colored metal case is decorated with sweet little birds and a woman’s face, and and even the pendulum boasts a gorgeous starburst design.

The clock dates to the 1950s and as the movement is by the famous German manufacturer Hermle, it still works as good as new. It sounds a pretty double strike too, to help everyone at The Dresden keep their appointments on time!

Paul Corrie interior with EuroLuxAntiques.com vintage clockFast forward and here’s the room Paul designed with the clock – you can see it to the left of the fireplace. I love how this classic and simple space is made so striking (forgive my pun) by the vintage clock and also the fireplace screen. Just a few special details add a sense of luxury. The tile work is lovely too, and Paul creates yet more visual interest by setting the mirror to one side above the fireplace, breaking up the symmetry. He’s got a great eye!

The layering of cool, neutral tones gives the room an air of elegant distinction, increasing the sense of space and lightHere’s another shot of the same room at The Dresden, although you can’t see the vintage clock from this angle. The layering of cool, neutral tones gives the room an air of elegant distinction, increasing the sense of space and light. The Toile de Jouy fabric on the armchair is delightful, adding a dash of pattern in the otherwise solid and plain colored upholstery. It draws the eye, without making the room too busy.

Isn't this an inviting space by Paul Corrie Interiors? His name often crops up in interior design magazines including Traditional Home, Metropolitan Home, and Home & DesignIsn’t this an inviting space? Paul makes the setting welcoming with the plumped-up cushions, vases of flowers, and a casual pile of books just waiting for someone to leaf through them. I can picture myself curling up here with a magazine and a cup of tea! I’d probably find myself reading about Paul Corrie, as his name often crops up in interior design magazines including Traditional Home, Metropolitan Home, and Home & Design.

Although Paul tends towards more contemporary design, he’s also influenced by the classic and very gracious homes in the nation’s capital. He’s been quoted as saying “I always like to pull in simple, timeless furnishings with clean lines” and we can see that in these photos. Who wouldn’t feel at home in these spaces he creates? Paul has recently been selected as the designer for the new DC Center for the LGBT community – yet another feather to add to his cap. Home & Design Magazine called Paul “a rising star” back in 2008, and it looks like his star has well and truly risen!

Client Spotlight: Folsom, CA

A big thanks to Carlos and Cristina S. in Folsom, CA, for sending photos of their Italian Antique Reproduction Mantel Clock in its new home in their beautiful dining room.

One cherub points dramatically upwards, which in this photo draws your eye to the large, Spanish Mission-inspired black wrought iron chandelier that is centered above the handsome, Antique Dining Table and massive, leather-backed Antique Dining Chairs.

This Large Rococo Mantel Clock weighs 42 pounds due to the solid green marble base and measures more than 2 feet in height.  Two cherubs are in spiraling movement around the black globe in the center, which is draped in a gilded cloth, and has very pretty gilded feet and a reeded and ribboned decorative gilded band around the base.

On the wall in the back of Carlos & Cristina’s dining room, is a highly carved and stunning Antique Renaissance Buffet with ornate carvings of caryatid figures, which act as support columns.  Light from an open window to the right falls on the cherub, whose outstretched arm in this photo draws the eye to the attractively framed print of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, which was painted by the Spanish Baroque Master Painter, Bartolome Esteban Murillo, in 1678, and now hangs in the Prado Museum in Madrid.  Candlesticks with cherubs sit on either side of the image of the Madonna, surrounded by cherubs, in ascension to heaven, completing this other-wordly design motif.

Thanks, Carlos and Cristina, for sharing images of your new treasure from EuroLuxAntiques.com – we wish we could join you for dinner and linger over a bottle of wine, perhaps a good Spanish red table wine from the La Rioja region?

And thank you for stopping by the EuroLux Antiques Blog! Click here to see more Antique & Vintage Mantel Clocks.
