EuroLux Home on Pinterest

Antiques in the homeGreg and I have had a Pinterest account for EuroLuxHome.com for a long time, but recently we have been pinning a lot more. We’ve been pintastic!   If you want to pin any of the photos in this blog post. just click on the photo to be taken directly to the original Pinterest photo.

We’ve added a lot of new Pinterest home decor and stylish living boards covering all kinds of areas including Antique and Vintage for the Home, to showcase some of the best antiques from our store but also ways to live with antique furniture.

For example, this fabulous image of stylish heiress Ann Getty’s home in San Francisco. This emerald green room is packed with antique furniture and treasures, as featured in HarpersBazaar.com

Scarborough House Hall TreeWe also highlight some of our favorite new furniture, for example, this superb new Scarborough House Hall Tree or Coat Rack available in our online store, crafted in fine myrtle burl with lovely decorative carving, handsome brass accents and a large mirror.

Some of our boards are dedicated to specific spaces in the home. We have boards on beautiful bedrooms, stunning bathrooms, impressive and inviting hallways and entryways, vintage kitchens, home bars, and traditional offices.

We also have boards full of fabulous images of specific styles of antique furniture and the most popular home decor styles.

Country Farmhouse furniture and decorFor example, Rococo furniture and decor, antique French Brittany furniture, antique French Hunting style, Louis XV furniture and decor, VIctorian Style, Art Deco, and Mid-Century Modern.

Whatever your taste, you will find a style board to follow! This is an image from the Country Farmhouse Furniture board, which makes us all want to sit down at that charming table and share a glass of French wine!

We hope that if you are Pinterest you will not only follow us but leave a message on one of our images to tell us you are a customer or blog reader…. then we can make sure we follow you back!

Yellow RoomOther boards include design ideas that we love, and simply delicious food, drink and recipes. Some boards are dedicated to color schemes, for example red rooms and interiors, blue decor, and yellow rooms.

This buttery yellow formal living room works really well with the darker antique and paintings and the screen in the corner, and the paint color is Benjamin Moore HC-4 Hawthorne, if you would like to know!

We are keen gardeners, so we also have a board on beautiful gardens. This board shows some of our garden photos but mainly it is of gorgeous gardens around the world, and also great ideas for landscaping and making the garden even lovelier! This wheelbarrow planter makes me look forward to summer!

WHeelbarrow planterOf course we have a travel board too, which especially focuses on Europe because we travel so much in Europe to buy antiques to ship back to the USA!

FranceAnd yes, you know we have to have a “we love pets!” board, to show off our own furry brood of cats and dogs but also to share other pinners’ photos of cute pets. Here’s our Lenny, helping out with the laundry!Lenny CatWe hope you will follow EuroLuxHome.com on Pinterest – we look forward to seeing you there and pinning up a storm!

Newberry Groove ‘N BrewFest

Groove n brew logo NewberryThe first ever Groove ‘N BrewFest is a 1970s/80s music and craft beer festival that will rock Downtown Newberry, SC, on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

I am excited about it because I am Vice-President of the Newberry Downtown Development Association, a collection of enthusiastic residents, business and property owners who want to make Downtown Newberry a better place.

Earlier this year, we held a retreat where we challenged ourselves to do something really big to improve our local economy. We decided that if our local historic theatre, The Ritz, was a fully-functioning business as a concert venue/movie theatre, that it would significantly increase foot traffic Downtown, which would in turn, attract more businesses to locate here.

So we decided to hold a street festival as a fundraiser to collect a pool of funds for economic development grants. We are hoping that the Newberry Community Players, who own The Ritz Theatre, will be our first grantees. We’d like to be able to purchase them a permanent sound system so that they can have more events, raise more money, and little by little restore and revitalize this historic Art Deco building from 1936.

Groove n BrewFest Newberry Poster

This is the story behind Groove ‘N BrewFest — a 70s/80s music and craft beer festival that will happen on Saturday, April 7th from 1 pm to 10 pm in Downtown Newberry. We will have 25 regional craft beers and a wide variety of food trucks.

humanbowling Newberry SC

I am also excited about the games – human bowling, a giant Operation game, and a bungee jumporee where you can jump 20 feet in the air – that should be a lot of laughs!

Greg has headed up the music committee and we’ll have bands playing 70s and 80s music on an outside stage all day. J-E-T opens the day from 1 to 5 pm.

All festival-goers are encourage to dress in 70s/80s duds, so we’ll have karaoke and costume contests hosted by Z93, a local Columbia radio station, between 5 and 6 pm. From 6 to 10 pm, 121 Band will continue to rock out your favorite 70s/80s hits.

The festival and outside music is free.

Inside The Ritz Theatre, our headliner bands will play for an additional ticket. Heartbreaker is a Heart/Led Zeppelin tribute band and they will play from 6 to 8 pm. Rumours ATL is a Fleetwood Mac tribute band and they will play from 8 to 10 pm. Greg and I have traveled quite a few times around the Southeast to see Rumours ATL as they are excellent and really give a great show! If you love Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, you will have a fantastic time! Advance purchase tickets are selling fast as they are a great value: Get tickets here

Band at Newberry Groove and Brew festival

A $40 Advanced purchase ticket includes the two tribute bands, an over-21 wristband with ID, a festival cup, and one craft beer. A $50 Advanced Purchase VIP ticket includes the two tribute bands, an over-21 wristband with ID, a festival cup, two craft beers, early access for best seating, and access to VIP bathrooms during the festival. A $50 Day-Of ticket includes the two tribute bands, an over-21 wristband with ID, and a festival cup (beer not included).

We have worked incredibly hard over the past three months to launch this new festival, which will actually be Newberry’s first green festival! It has been a labor of love and we really hope the community will come out and drink a beer with us to support our hard-work and help raise funds for economic development grants to make Downtown Newberry a better place! Come by Groove ‘N BrewFest and say hello!

California Antiques Road Trip Part 2

In my last blog post I explained how we found ourselves on a California Antiques Road Trip in a 26-foot U-Haul truck to deliver a very large order of antique furniture to a customer.

The Grand Canyon Road TripAs we left Amarillo, TX, we set our goal to reach Williams, AZ, by the end of the day. As I started researching hotels on the laptop, I realized that we would be one hour due south of the Grand Canyon! How could we be that close and not stop!

So even though it would add a few hours to the drive, we decided it was worth it.
Yoga at the Grand CanyonIMG_2694We got up at 5 am on the fourth day and headed out to the south rim of the Grand Canyon.

I couldn’t resist doing a few yoga poses on the rim with such a beautiful background behind me – I crossed off that bucket list item!

And then we turned the truck toward Monterey, CA, passing through the Mojave Desert on the way.

It was interesting how you could feel the dryness in your eyes, on your skin, and at the back of your throat while in the desert.

Antiques Road Trip to California

We were exhausted by the time we stopped – 2800 miles in 86.5 hours from Newberry, SC to Monterey, CA. All of the pieces were delivered into a storage unit, as the customer’s home is currently under renovation, but she was pleased with her purchases.

The WInchester House California MysteryAfter the delivery was completed, we decided to visit the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. Greg remembers seeing this house on “In Search Of” in the 1970s! Built in 1884 by Sarah Winchester, heiress of the Winchester Rifle fortune, this quirky 24,000 square foot house has stairs and doors that lead to nowhere and windows in the floor. Rumor has it that Sarah kept builders employed 24 hours a day for 38 years as a way to appease the spirits of those who lost their lives to the “gun that won the West.” It was definitely entertaining!

Golden Gate BridgeWe also took a six-hour bus tour of San Francisco, which included views of the Golden Gate.IMG_2752

And we took a jaunt over to Muir Woods to hug a redwood.

We spent our last day at Alcatraz and wandering around Fisherman’s Wharf hunting for more cheesy magnets to add to our growing collection.

Finally, we headed to the airport and caught the red eye flight home.

It was a busy nine days, but we really had a lot of fun too. And we were delighted to get  our customer’s big order of fabulous antique furniture to her on time.

We’d already shipped those incredible antiques across the Atlantic ocean from Europe to the USA, and now we’d driven them right across the American continent to deliver each piece ourselves.  Did I mention that we pride ourselves on our customer service? :-)
As Greg joked afterward… “You need a truckload of antiques moved across the country on short notice? I’m your man.”

California Antiques Road Trip

Greg and I hadn’t planned to drive a huge truck of antiques 2,800 miles from our gallery in Newberry, South Carolina, to California by way of the Grand Canyon… but that is exactly what we did! It’s just as well that we both love to get out of town and take a road trip when the opportunity presents itself!

Antiques Road Trip

When we sold a very large order to a customer in California, earlier this year, we planned to ship the order in a 40-foot container across the country and fly out to make the delivery ourselves to ensure that everything went smoothly. But our perfect plan kept going off the rails. After the sixth trucker canceled our load, we realized it was time to take matters into our own hands. Most retailers across the country are stocking up inventory in preparation for the upcoming holidays now, so there are currently more trucking jobs than truckers out on the roads and truckers can pick and choose which loads they want to carry.

Trucking antiquesThen we tried to get a container dropped at our gallery for a day so that we could carefully load all of the antiques into the container, but no one wanted to leave their trailer overnight. Next we tried to do a “live load” but we needed at least 8 hours to be able to carefully pack the trailer. Again, no one wanted to wait while we loaded, so we decided to rent a 26-foot U-Haul truck and just drive the load ourselves!  Turns out this will be the mother of all road trips – 2800 miles!

Texan waffleOn the first day we went through quite a few cities: Newberry, SC, Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, Tupelo, MS, Memphis, TN, crossed the Mississippi River, finally reaching Forrest City, AR.

The cities became fewer with more distance in between on the second day: Little Rock, AR, Oklahoma City, OK, finally reaching Amarillo, TX. Here’s a good ole Texan waffle!

Los Pollos Hermanos AlbuquerqueWe happened to be passing Albuquerque, NM, around lunch time. Greg and I are big fans of the TV show, Breaking Bad, so we decided to find Los Pollos Hermanos, the Mexican restaurant that is featured prominently in the show. The food was just okay, but it was fun to sit in Walter White’s booth.

Walter White's favorite restaurant

In my next blog post about our California Antiques Road Trip Part 2, I’ll be doing yoga in the Grand Canyon and we’ll visit the spooky Winchester Mystery House. And.. oh yes! You’ll find out if we managed to deliver our mega-truck of antiques to our California client on time!

Ask About Our Antique Furniture With Chat!

Aimee Antiques Store ownerIf you’ve visited our antiques and home accessories online store recently, you know that EuroLuxHome.com now has a snazzy new Chat function! This means you can send a quick text message through Chat to ask a question about any of the products for sale on our site, or ask if we are going to have a specific type of item in stock soon.

We frequently ship new containers of antiques from France and other parts of Europe, so if you get in touch and we have something suitable on its way, we might be able to give you the first scoop!

When you phone, email or use the Chat function to have a conversation with us, the person at the other end is usually me, Aimee. (Sometimes our many dogs and cats like to lend a helping paw too, but their typing isn’t quite fast enough for Chat yet!)

Greg often joins in on Chat too – he is the technical wizard in our family business, so if you send a Chat message, it’s just as likely to be him replying as me because he loves using Chat! Either way, we will do our best to help you, whether you are asking about one of our new pieces of hand-crafted, antique-inspired furniture or a century-old piece that Greg and I found in an antiques market in Paris and shipped back to the USA.

Aimee and Greg Antiques Store OwnersWe pride ourselves on our high level of customer service. We get 100% positive feedback and very high positive marks on all the major sites where we sell, such as eBay and Chairish. We also have the Best of Houzz awards for customer satisfaction and service for several years.

Our goal is to keep to that high standard and improve our customer service even more, making life easier for customers to find the perfect antique furniture for their home, the ideal vintage home accessory or the newly crafted piece of furniture of their dreams, something that will maybe  become a family heirloom.  So now our website offers Chat!

Customers who have used it tell us that they love the Chat function! Everybody is multi-tasking these days so they can have a conversation with us about a piece while also doing other things. And if we need to leave the phone for a minute to research an answer for them or measure some specific dimension of a piece, they can carry on doing something else with their time till we return to Chat.

The only thing we can’t really do is give appraisals. If you have a piece that you want to sell, then read my blog post How to Sell Antiques and Vintage Items. We usually direct people to Worthpoint.com to find out the value of a piece.

So, whether you phone us on our toll free number: 866-602-9394 or email us or or hop over to the website at EuroLuxHome.com to use the Chat box to ask your question…  give in to temptation and get in touch! We’d love to help!

Princess Diana Family Home Althorp Furniture

Althorp House furniture inspirationThe Althorp Living History collection of furniture is based on the antique furniture from Princess Diana’s ancestral home in England. We are delighted that we are now supplying this elegant collection to our customers. Each piece is beautifully hand-crafted by Theodore Alexander furniture makers.

This is Althorp, the childhood home and final resting place of the late Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. Her brother Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer, still lives there and he has allowed Theodore Alexander access to make the Althorp furniture collection.

Althorp Furniture: Marlborough Room

The house was built in 1508 by the Spencer family, set in 550 acres of parkland near Northampton, 70 miles north of London. Althorp has 90 rooms that are all beautifully decorated with antiques added to the house by generations of Princess Diana’s ancestors over five centuries. This is the Marlborough Room. The Victorian rosewood dining table pulls extends to seat up to 42 guests!

Theodore Alexander Althorp BedEvery piece in the Theodore Alexander Althorp furniture collection is either an exact reproduction of furniture in the Althorp estate, or is inspired by it. What an amazing and exciting challenge that must have been for the master craftsmen at Theodore Alexander!

These pieces, like all Theodore Alexander furniture, are hand-crafted with superb finishes.

For example, this four-poster Althorp bed in the style of George III is crafted in handsome mahogany with a gorgeous flame mahogany veneer design and brass accents. The acanthus leaf motif, carved columns and spiral pine cone finials create a very luxurious impression.

Theodore Alexander Althorp DeskThis Althorp Living History desk is an absolutely darling piece of furniture. Imagine sitting down before the Louis XV Rococo style desk to write your journal or your correspondence!

This fine Althorp desk is crafted in mahogany and rosewood with cast brass accents on the cabriole legs. The serpentine top adds to the seductive appeal!

Theodore Alexander Althorp Sofa SetteeYou will have a great conversational starter when you welcome your guests to take a seat in this Theodore Alexander Althorp settee! Your friends will love to hear the story of its origins. The mahogany settee with leather upholstery is crafted in the Georgian style with shapely cabriole legs and a waisted back. It’s a charming settee and a real steal on the price for a settee with such a fine heritage. At time of writing it is $1759 with our always free shipping.

It’s an honor to supply this regal line of Theodore Alexander Althorp Living History furniture and home accessories to our customers. We hope you will browse our Althorp furniture here and let your imagination take flight!
