Vintage Summer Style and Antique Furniture

We have just crossed the halfway point of the year (can you believe it?) and it seems like a good time to look back on our best vintage summer style and antique furniture posts from the last four months. Here are our favorite home decor stories to inspire you!

Silver Spoon Chandelier Pendant Light FixtureEarly in the spring we heard that Consumer Reports magazine would feature one of our upcycled vintage chandeliers in their Kitchen Planning and Buying Guide.

We were delighted as our spoondeliers and pretty vintage teacup and spoon chandeliers are very popular and they are made by an artisan right here in the USA.

Read the whole Silver Spoon Chandelier in Consumer Reports story with photos from client homes.

Antique Chairs and TableIt’s always a joy to write our client spotlights about the new and antique furniture our customers bought from us and how great it looks in their homes. This one really caught our attention though, with antique French Renaissance chairs, the famous Aztec calendar stone and the singer Axl Rose, of the band Guns N’ Roses! To top it off, our client Bernard, who told us this great story, also lives in Hawaii with fantastic views.

Art Deco Buffet 18-33We recently received a container of antique furniture from France that included some amazing Art Deco buffets. We chose these buffets and sideboards because we love the look of Art Deco furniture and the pieces are exceptional.

They all have the spirited glamor and glitz of the Art Deco era, as well as the sophistication and craftsmanship that we expect from French furniture makers of the 1930s.

So I wrote a post about Classic Art Deco Style using these Art Deco buffets as examples to point up the features of this period of furniture. I’d love to hear if you enjoy this style as much as we do!

Jonathan Charles Home Office FurnitureWhen everyone was busy with spring cleaning and tax time (yay – that’s behind us for another year!) I wrote a series of blog posts about beautiful home office decor.

It was fun to think about how to create an enjoyable home office, from picking the perfect desk to choosing home office accents.

Top Grain Leather Sofa Antique LookI also got lucky and picked up some great tips about different types of leather and leather furniture care from one of the leather furniture makers that we work with.

They are a small family business and so they have time to chat and correspond with me and give me info and advice. So I passed that on to our blog readers in my post about Top-Grain vs. Split-Grain Leather and Leather Furniture Care. Read that and you’ll know how to take care of your favorite leather furniture. You’d be surprised at some of the mistakes people make!

mediterraneanflowerpotMy final favorite blog post recently was inspired by Mother’s Day! I made up a bunch of flower pots and hanging baskets for my mom and that made me think about Great Ways to Decorate the Garden with Flower Pots.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my favorite vintage style and antique furniture blog posts as much as I enjoy sharing them with you!

Home Office Accessories and Decor Accents

To end my series of blog posts about stylish home offices, I want to look at a few of the home office accessories and decor accents that I love.  I already wrote about Creating a Beautiful Home Office and then Picking the Perfect Desk to suit your style. Now it’s time to look at the finishing touches. I mean, those little details that help you keep organized but that are also lovely in design so they please you every time you use them or see them.
A functional home office isn’t any good unless it’s gorgeous too, right?

Jonathan Charles Buckingham Letter TrayEveryone needs a letter tray or other system to organize the work-in-progress and the inbox and outbox. This wonderful antique-inspired letter tray by Jonathan Charles is crafted to replicate a Victorian style letter tray. The crossbanded crotch mahogany letter tray has 3 tiers to keep the paperwork organized, and patinated brass decorative plates on the front of each tray let you label them in fine old-fashioned style.

Pen Holder FoxYou’ll need somewhere to rest your pen. Rather than losing it in a drawer, why not make a design statement with a handsomely crafted pen holder? We recently started carrying pieces made by OK Casting – all made in the USA and cast in resin with incredible detail. This fox pen holder is one of their pieces and it is hand-painted for a unique effect. Other designs include pheasants – perfect for your country themed office!

Dog BookendsThe same American company makes fantastic bookends. We have many traditional bookends on our website, including wooden chess piece bookends by Jonathan Charles and a large selection of decorative cast resin bookends by OK Casting. These are amazingly realistic, featuring dogs, horses, wild animals, birds, golfers, polo players, fishermen, kids, even Chief Sitting Bull!  A decorative bookend is a great way to reflect your personality in your office, as well as being practical.
Dale Tiffany Desk LampYou will probably want a desk lamp or table lamp in your home office. Everyone needs a task light to help them see what they are signing! An attractive lamp also adds a lot of character to an office, whether you are looking for a warm glow or a sophisticated beam of light across your desk.

This chic Dale Tiffany Abbeville Desk Lamp combines classic styling with modern sleekness. It is crafted using solid crystal decoration that sparkles deliciously against the polished chrome of the base. It looks much more expensive than you’d think, so it will impress your business clients as well as making every day a joy when you light up your office!

What desk accessories do you think are essential? What kind of decor accents do you enjoy in your home office? We’d love to hear about it – tell us in the comments box!

Picking the Perfect Desk For Your Traditional Home Office

My last blog post was about Creating a Beautiful Home Office and today I’ll zone in on picking the perfect desk, whether you have a home office or not! A desk needs to combine function with good looks.  There’s no point have a desk that looks amazing if it doesn’t provide the storage and work space you need. It’s also miserable having a desk that is adequately functional if you don’t take pleasure every single time you sit down to use it. Life is too short!

Antique French Gothic DeskThe Unique Antique DeskIf you love antiques and want a true original in your home office, then an antique desk is a joy to use as it carries so much history. This one is an antique French Gothic desk that we currently have in stock, dating to 1850 and heavily carved in solid oak. It hides a little surprise as the antique Gothic desk has been gently modernized for the 21st century. Someone added a slide-out wooden keyboard tray that blends so well, you’d think it was original!

Vintage French Country DeskThe Vintage French Desk. If you love French Country style and prefer a lighter wood desk, this gorgeous 1950 vintage French Country secretary desk is a great choice. The golden oak is very nicely carved and it’s well-sized for today’s interiors at just under 3 feet wide. If you want a French Country desk, then features to look for include sweet little cabriole legs, and elegant but simple carvings like the heart-shaped swag on this pull-down desk front.

Scarborough House Partners DeskThe Partners Desk. Sometimes only a very substantial partners desk will do! We now carry antique-inspired furniture by Scarborough House. Their high-quality, hand-crafted pieces include a wide choice of desks like this oval Scarborough House partners desk. The handsome brass handles, crotch mahogany and a leather surface make it an impressive addition to your study, home office or professional office.  If you buy a partners desk, always pick the handsomest and highest quality desk that you can as it will pay you back over the years. A good desk endorses your professional image to clients and business colleagues.

Ambella Home Modesto DeskThe Versatile Desk. If you don’t have a home office as such, then you might want a desk that blends in with your living space. This Ambella Home Modesto desk is a good example. The antique-inspired desk features lots of ornate carving detail, a generous desk surface and drawer storage space to keep the room free from clutter. But when you aren’t writing at your desk it just looks like a lovely decorative piece of furniture. Pop a bowl of flowers on top to add to the accent table effect!

carborough House Sheraton DeskThe Lots of Nooks and Crannies Desk. Sometimes you don’t need tons of storage space but you do want lots of separate compartments to keep everything well organized! This Scarborough House Sheraton Writing Desk is a charming example. Aside from all the drawers and cubbies, the exquisitely crafted crotch mahogany desk looks amazing. The brass handles and leather writing surface make it seem so authentic. I think that Jane Austen would have been at home writing Pride and Prejudice at this desk!

Handpainted desk Jonathan CharlesThe Artist’s Desk. If beauty triumphs over all in your home office, then you are probably looking for a highly decorative desk that makes you smile at its craftsmanship. (You’ll be happy to keep your documents tucked out of sight in a filing cabinet as long as the desk looks fantastic!) In that case, you have to admire this superb Jonathan Charles desk from the Kensington collection. The French style desk is hand-painted by Jonathan Charles artisans with gold floral detail across the pretty curved apron and legs. A dark leather inlaid writing surface tempts you to stay all day. There is one drawer to keep your favorite pens and essential notes, but this gilded desk is more like a French Haute Couture dress. You buy it for the sheer wicked pleasure of it and because it makes you look so good!

Boy, now I am feeling very bored with my own desk that I’m writing this at! I hope you enjoy picking your perfect desk whatever style you like. Please leave a note in the comment box to tell me YOUR idea of a perfect desk!

Creating A Beautiful Home Office

Spring is the time of year when everyone organizes their home office, tidying up files and throwing out clutter! But the best home offices are as beautiful as they are functional. Your office should be a place where you can express your personality as well as work, manage  paperwork and finances, and receive clients!

Jonathan Charles furniture home officeThis stunning home office featuring antique-inspired furniture by Jonathan Charles is packed with personality! We love the Jonathan Charles furniture and home accents we carry because each piece is crafted to look authentic and last a lifetime, often using the same techniques that furniture makers used hundreds of years ago. The deep blue walls and colorful artwork in this office create an eclectic effect paired with the traditional office furniture. The white upholstery and carpet are a little unexpected, adding another bright and sophisticated touch.

Jonathan Charles Home Office FurnitureThis home office, again decorated with a Jonathan Charles desk and other furniture is notable for its gorgeous light and a clean uncluttered look. (I bet someone has been reading
Marie Kondo’s best-selling book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up!) The modern and airy look of the room is grounded by the substantial wood furniture and bold metal hardware. It shows how traditional furniture can be given a completely unique spin by a homeowner who is willing to mix up their styles a bit and combine pieces they love. A large plant in the corner also makes an office so much more welcoming and we love the faux zebra rug for a dash of exotic character!

Traditional home office

If you want to get truly arty, then how about this amazing traditional home office in Chicago? The domed ceiling boasts a custom-painted mural of the Mediterranean – once you spot Italy on the right of the ceiling fan you can figure out how the map falls into place. This is a splendidly designed room with wood paneling, wood plank floor, and huge windows too, but even if you don’t have such a fabulous space to work in, you can take a few tips. Choose a couple of comfortable and very handsome leather sofas for relaxed business conversations, Add a colorful tapestry or rug and plenty of book on the shelves and you’re set!

This traditional home office in Washington D.C. is actually quite streamlined and simple when you look closely, but it creates a strong impression because of the club style leather chairs and the impressive antique-inspired desk.  The high vaulted ceiling helps to add architectural interest, but the main thing that creates decorative appeal at ceiling level is the large chandelier lighting.  A chandelier always makes a statement and sets the tone for a room.

I hope that these beautiful home offices have given you some ideas on how to jazz up your own office this spring! In my next post, I’ll share some of my favorite antique and antique-inspired desks and other home office furniture and decor accents to make your office beautiful and beautifully organized too!

Home Decor in Fabulous February

On this Leap Day 2016, a glance back over our home decor and antiques blog for February proves that the shortest month still gave us plenty to talk about. Here are our favorite blog posts from fabulous February!

HeadboardFirst, let’s start with our fabulous floor! As part of our 1920s vintage bungalow renovation our next job was to tackle the floor. We put the new flooring down in the living room, dining room and other rooms. It went quite quickly, using a realistic-looking laminate to replace the rotted hardwood floor.  This is the bedroom when we finished, with the antique headboard ready to have the bed attached. See the full Vintage Life New Floor story at the link.

Brown distressed Leather chairI also wrote about three of our most popular items on Houzz  – at least as far as our recent sales go! The bestsellers in recent months have been:
1) Leather chairs and sofas
2) Aubusson hand-crafted throw pillows
3) Console tables in all kinds of designs.
It’s interesting to see the items that design-savvy Houzz fans choose. It shows the ‘essentials’ that people want in their homes. Console tables and leather chairs and sofas are classic pieces that always have a beautiful and useful place in a house, and a hand-made throw pillow is also a wonderful investment.

White traditional Living Room

Soft whites have been chosen by several paint companies as Paint Colors of the Year for 2016 so I took a look at decorating with white to show how to keep white looking elegant and welcoming rather than cold and clinical. I hope you enjoy the tips, including layering whites, exploring textures and contrasting with warm wood.

The final favorite of the month was a travel post. A lot of us can see spring is coming just around the corner, and after this long and cold winter we’re ready to dream of trips to new places! This lead to my post about Graceful Getaways in New England. Mayflower hotel with antiques

The three hotels I highlighted have historic stories to tell or they are decorated with antique furniture and art. This is the Mayflower Grace Hotel in Connecticut, featuring antique rugs and antique four-poster beds as well as 18th and 19th century art on the walls. Who’d want to leave their hotel room?

Join me again next month to read about great home decor ideas and info on antique furniture. I’m always happy to hear from you with questions about vintage or antique furniture or lighting, home accents and accessories.  Send me an email or comment on this blog or our EuroLux Facebook page.

Decorating With White

I wrote a while ago about all the elegant and soft whites that have been picked as Paint Colors of the Year for 2016.    White is such a classic color, it works in traditional rooms and modern rooms and with styles from French Country to Farmhouse to Scandinavian to Hollywood Regency and Art Deco!  But it also risks looking clinical and cold if it’s not handled well.

This white living room in the English countryside avoids looking stark — despite the high ceilings and large expanses of white walls — due to the soft furnishings. The white sofa slip covers and squashy throw pillows make it look comfy. Soft furnishings are important to balance the hard surfaces which can make a white room look unwelcoming. Wood floors and furniture warm the space up too. That view out of the window is stunning, but sadly we can’t all replicate that!

A beautiful dark wood floor also helps to ground this bright white living room in Minnesota. You are unlikely to redo the entire floor of a room to match the white walls! But if you have a room with wood floors already, then it could be a good candidate for white decor. Or use new or antique wood furniture to create the same effect, warming the space up and contrasting nicely with the airy white.

White bamboo chairAnother way to create a sanctuary of peaceful white is to look for off-white textiles and white furniture so you can layer the tones for a richer impression.  The easiest trick of all is to use a wide variety of textures to create visual interest. For example, bamboo, wicker, and rattan furniture or woven rattan baskets all create immediate texture.

This white Woodbridge dining chair is actually faux bamboo – it is crafted in hardwood but turned in a bamboo-like fashion. But you can see how much texture and dimension it adds to the fabulous hand-rubbed finish in antique white paint.

French Style White Bench

Carved detail will also soften the look of a piece of white furniture and create tons of visual interest. The decorative style of this exquisite new French style window bench is enhanced by the antiqued whitewash finish on the pretty details: the rosettes and the reeded and turned legs. The bench is upholstered in white/cream linen. Linen always has such a lovely texture too. Can you see the distressed finish on the bench? The extra visual layering and texture take an already beautiful piece of white furniture into an even more interesting zone!

White Ladderback chair French Country

Here’s another example of artful distressing on a new  white French Country dining chair or side chair. The distressing by Woodbridge Furniture Company artisans is created by hand-rubbing. It is quite a skill to know exactly where an antique piece of furniture would have been worn by use, and therefore create an aged and antique effect!

The result is lovely and authentic. You can see how the distressing adds visual dimension and warmth to the white ladderback chair. (Underneath the white paint finish, the chairs are solid wood and very sturdy.)

If you imagine the chair without the hand-distressing it would still be a very handsome chair, but you can see what I mean about the importance of visual layers of color and texture.

Of course, if you have lots of pets or children around, you might want to be strategic in your use of white furniture, but distressed pieces absorb and disguise the impact of ‘real life’ very well!

Do you have a room decorated in white? We’d love to hear from you in the comments box, or even see photos!

Houzz Furniture and Home Decor Favorites

We have been selling on Houzz.com for less than two years but we’ve already found an enthusiastic following of home decor lovers who are quick to snap up our antiques imported from France, as well as our high-quality and hand-crafted antique-inspired furniture. We already won several home decor honors from Houzz including a Best of Houzz award for our customer satisfaction and service.

So I thought that for today’s blog post I’d share with you three of the most popular items we’ve been selling recently on Houzz. It’s a good way to take the temperature of the kind of things that Houzz folk are interested in right now in terms of home decor.

Leather Sofas and settees and leather chairs are very popular with the style-wise Houzzers, probably because leather upholstery looks good with any style of decor and stands up to tough punishment in daily wear. For example, this elegant but comfortable new Madison leather accent chair, superbly crafted with a solid wood frame featuring hand-applied nailhead trim. The weathered brown leather gives a classic aged effect. All you need is a good book or the remote control and a glass of wine and you are settled in for the evening!

Aubusson hand-embroidered throw pillow

Our new Aubusson hand-crafted throw pillows are also being snapped up left and right. We have many different designs in our wide selection of Aubusson throw pillows but they all of exceptionally high quality and craftsmanship. This 20″ x 20″ hand-embroidered throw pillow in traditional Aubusson style is a good example. The large embroidered flowers are perfect for a French Country living room or bedroom, and the pretty design is set off by a luxurious frame of green and bronze tassels. A zippered velvet fabric and a down and feather insert add to the comfort! A set of handsome throw pillows always adds a wonderful decorative touch to a room and the design of the pillows can really help pull together a color scheme.

Woodbridge Marseille console table

Design savvy Houzz fans are also buying a lot of console tables from us.  A console table is so versatile and it can be used in many different ways in every room of the house. It can be a convenient storage table in a narrow hallway, a beautiful display table placed against the wall in a living room, or it can be placed as a visual divider between different areas of a room. One of our most popular console tables is this gorgeous solid wood Woodbridge Marseille console table with a hand-waxed cherry veneer.

I think that a good leather chair or sofa, attractive throw pillows and an eye-catching console table are all practical and beautiful investments in any home. Apparently the Houzz community agrees! What do you think?

Pantone Picks Pink and Blue for Interiors

A few weeks ago I blogged about the Paint Colors of the Year for 2016, which are all soft whites. The only company that has spoken out for color this year is Pantone. The international color trend experts at Pantone picked a pink and a blue for their colors of the year 2016. The colors are called Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Pantone pink and blue

Pantone chose these soft pink and blue tones for the same reason as the paint companies who chose whites!

They say it’s to create a sense of peacefulness – an escape from modern day stresses. The Pantone website says “Whether on their own or combined with other shades, the pairing of Serenity and Rose Quartz bring a feeling of calm and relaxation into the home environment.”
This is the first time Pantone picked two colors rather than one. Last year it was the deep wine color Marsala, which I thought was a very nice shade for many different styles of home decor. The light pink and blue are a bit different. Pink and blue makes some people think of picking a color to paint the nursery for the baby! Other people might be reminded of the 1980s.  But I think there are ways to work with Serenity and Rose Quartz in the home and still keep it looking grown-up and beautiful.

Blue and Pink Floral Traditional

Here is one example. It reminds me of the decor I’ve seen in some old French houses and chateaux, where the soft pastel pinks and blues were a very traditional choice. High quality materials and fine finishes are important to carry off this luxurious look. A touch of gilding adds to the sophistication too!

This is a sweet take on the same color combo. The romantic bedroom plays up the delicate tones by pairing them with flowers, bows, crystals on the light fitting, and sheer curtains. Even the image behind the bed of a rack of dresses has a floaty feel.
Aubusson Pink Blue Throw Pillow
If all-out Rose Quartz pink and Serenity blue is too much for you, a few home decor accents can capture the tranquility of these colors.

This new Aubusson throw pillow blends similar shades of pink and blue beautifully. Crafted using traditional techniques to replicate antique French Aubusson pillows, the pillow has a floral design that would look very pretty in a Victorian bedroom or in a country cottage living room.

Dale Tiffany Blue Barroque LampThe airy weightlessness of the two colors also makes me think they will look good on glass. The softness of the colors matched with the shiny translucency of glass seems like a match made in color heaven!

I think the blue on the hand-crafted art glass shade of this new Dale Tiffany Blue Baroque table lamp looks very close to the Pantone Serenity shade.

The shade is made by glass artisans using traditional copper foil techniques and the pretty glass jewels add to the light and tranquil feel.

Pink Chandelier FlorenceThis amazing new Cyan Design Florence chandelier looks like a close match for Rose Quartz pink. The Murano glass style chandelier with its cascading swirls could almost be whipped up from pink clouds at sunset! Or maybe I’m just getting all romantic and dewy-eyed from looking at Rose Quartz pink and Serenity sky blue for too long!

What do you think of the Pantone colors of the year? Would you like them in your home? Would you combine them or just stay with one shade or the other?

Top 12 Antiques and Home Decor Blog Posts 2015: Part 2

Last week I gave you a roundup of six of our most popular home decor and antiques blog posts of 2015. Here’s Part 2 with the remaining six of our (and your) favorite 12 posts from last year. It’s been fun seeing all the things we talked about in 2015 – we hope you enjoy seeing the highlights too. Happy new year!

7. Romantic Teacup and Spoon Chandelier

Vintage teaspoon chandelier in kitchenEveryone loved seeing our customer Marie-Louise’s romantic vintage kitchen in Haute-Normandie, France. Marie-Louise bought a new, custom-made vintage teacup and spoon chandelier from us. (It’s one of our many upcycled chandeliers, hand-crafted for us by an artisan from vintage components.)

See the photos of her characterful French kitchen in the story about The Vintage Teacup Chandelier.

Kelley in Houston, TX, was another customer who bought one of the whimsical chandeliers, but as this story shows, she changed out the vintage tea cups for large double espresso coffee cups!

8. Charming Cottage style

antique French dining chairs RenaissanceThis charming old cottage next to a babbling brook is owned by our customers Lenore and John. They only bought it recently and they picked several pieces of antique furniture from us to furnish it. Their selection included a beautifully carved antique French Henry II buffet, vintage French Renaissance dining chairs, and a pretty Louis XVI buffet for the bedroom suite.

It all looks very impressive — as well as very cozy — against the exposed logs in the mountain cabin, as you can see from the photos in the Cottage Style with Antique Furniture post.

9. Choosing Antique-Inspired Furniture

demilune regency sideboardI’ve written before about how to buy antique furniture online, but sometimes people need advice on buying high-quality reproduction or antique-inspired furniture too. It can be overwhelming to know what to look for as a sign of good quality. My post on Choosing Antique-Inspired Furniture describes three important elements to consider when you are shopping!

10. Beach Style Decor

Beach Style Living RoomThis summer I was inspired to write a series of posts about Beach Style Decor from sea shell decor to coastal cottage accents. This breezy series is full of ideas to create your nautical home, or perhaps just a single room that feels like a vacation… with a refreshing dash of casual chic and a sunny atmosphere to cheer even the coldest day!

11. English Castle Hotels

Leeds Castle EnglandSpeaking of vacations, I had a great time (and spent a lot of imaginary travel dollars) writing about English Castle Hotels. These unique locations are full of English history, lore and legends for a very special overnight stay. Everyone feels like royalty! I also wrote about ways to stay at Leeds Castle in England. This incredible castle, sometimes called “The Loveliest Castle in the World,” needed a whole post to itself to do it justice!

12. Yard Yoga at our Vintage Bungalow

Spring2015 planting the front yardBack in the U.S.A., our own vintage 1920s bungalow in historic Newberry, South Carolina is our castle!  We’re pleased with all our progress on our “new” old home, as you can see in our series on The Vintage Life. Blog readers and friends of our page on Facebook have been very encouraging,  making positive comments on everything from our tiling adventures to the cat porch we built.

But as it’s the middle of winter, I’m going to pick out a summery landscaping post: April Showers bring May Flowers to show off just how lovely the garden has grown! Greg and I love puttering in the garden – it’s so relaxing to be outside, digging in the dirt. I like to call it yard yoga. We’re looking forward to this year’s yard yoga and this year’s flowers… we hope you have a flourishing 2016 too!

If you missed Part 1 of our top 12 blog posts of 2015, you can see the other six here.

Top 12 Antiques and Home Decor Blog Posts 2015: Part 1

It’s that time again! We’re reviewing our antiques and home decor blog posts from 2015 and it’s very hard to pick just a dozen of the most popular stories of the year.

Before we start, we’re grateful for all our good news this year. We received many honors from Houzz.com including a Best of Houzz 2015 award for customer satisfaction and service. Our upcycled vintage spoon chandeliers were featured on a TV show and we expanded and beautified our booth at the Antique Tobacco Barn in Asheville, NC.

There’s more good news too, but let’s look at the first six of our favorite 12 antiques and home decor blog posts of 2015. We’ll share the rest in our next post welcoming the new year.

1. Antique French Furniture in Newberry Mansion

Greco-Roman mansion in Newberry, SCWe always appreciate customers who return to us to buy antique, vintage, and new furniture and home decor accents, and then send us photos for our series of client  spotlights so we can see how their purchases look in their home!

Of the many that stand out from 2015, one is this gorgeous mansion filled with antique furniture chosen by our customer Tamra. In the blog post about the Newberry Mansion you’ll see the inside tour with pieces Tamra bought from us including a French Country table, antique Hunting chairs and antique Mechelen buffets.

2. The Search for the Perfect Vintage French Sheepbone Chairs

Vintage French Sheepbone ChairsThe story about the 1950 vintage French Sheepbone chairs in Veritta’s home in California was also a happy one for us because Veritta said she bought her dining table 10 years ago but she has been waiting all this time to find the perfect chairs!
See for yourself how right she was to wait for the perfect match, and also find out about the carved sheepbone style and why it’s named that way!

3. Vintage Life Cat Porch: Build It and The Cats Will Come

Evening on the Cat PorchIn our ongoing saga about the renovation of our 1920s vintage bungalow, we made sure we created a special space for the cats too! Our story and photos about our cat porch was one of the most popular posts this year. Everyone enjoys sitting in this “cat paradise” screened porch.

Since then we also adopted a new little tiger cat, Pumpkin to join our family of (now) 9 cats and dogs. Meet her and read about how Pumpkin arrived during Hurricane Joachim.

4. Romantic Victorian Inns

The Oaks Victorian InnJust in time for Valentine’s Day I took a virtual trip to Romantic Victorian Inns around the country. These four inns are great for a romantic getaway at any time of the year. The inns are decorated with period Victorian or Victorian style decor, adding to the charm of your stay!

5. Decorating with Mirrored Furniture

Ambella Home Casablanca chest mirroredTying in with the Hollywood Regency trend and the always-popular Art Deco look, I took the opportunity to shine a light on Decorating with Mirrored Furniture.

I hope these highlights of the year provide you with some inspiration or just a little fun as you browse through.
