That code is good for everything on our site, including furniture and lighting as well as home decor from wall art and throw pillows to candlesticks. The mahogany antique French Rococo Louis XV vanity and chest of drawers pictured above is from the new container. It dates to 1900 and boasts a luxurious white marble top. We have a pair of matching nightstands too!

We always have beautifully carved furniture in the gallery, but this shipment of antique furniture knocked our socks off! There are some exquisite pieces and every antique is of course hand-crafted and unique.  Let’s take a look at some more of my favorites.

Antique French Gothic BuffetThis spectacular 1870 antique French Gothic buffet will be the star of the room, intricately carved in walnut with a beautiful stained glass door. Fit for a cathedral or a castle, the magnificent Gothic buffet would make a great server when you entertain. It would make an impressive home bar too, displaying your favorite wines, spirits and liqueurs!

Carved antique buffet French Renaissance

Carved dog antique french buffet

I love this 1880 antique French Hunting buffet, carved with dogs and birds. The oak buffet stands more than 9 feet tall, crowned by a curved top crest with two birds flanking a regal shield. The detail on their carved feathers is gorgeous, as is the exquisite carving on the doors of a heron with a fish in its beak and a game bird pecking at berries.

Antique French Brittany chairsantique French brittany chair carvingThis set of 6 antique French Brittany chairs is a real conversation starter! Dating to 1880, the six chestnut chairs are carved with different images of traditionally dressed French country men and woman in the seat back.

I had to lighten these images a little so you can see the detailed carving on the seat backs. For that reason they don’t look nearly as rich as the actual aged chestnut wood. You can see detailed close-ups of all the carved characters on the antique Brittany chair listing on our website. Here is one of the guys sauntering through his rustic village just to give you an idea of the quality of the carving and the charm of the chairs! The ship wheel spindles on the crest rail honor Brittany’s maritime history.

Dale Tiffany Carnation LampFinally, this Dale Tiffany lamp is NOT an antique that just arrived on our latest container of antiques from France!

It is newly hand-crafted by Dale Tiffany artisans, inspired by an original antique Tiffany design, with each piece of glass individually crafted using the same copper-foiled technique pioneered by the glass maestro Louis Comfort Tiffany!

The Dale Tiffany carnation accent lamp will put a beautiful spot of summery color into your living room or bedroom all year round.

I’m just showing it to remind you that our discount code is valid on everything on our website.

For more inspiration, browse our complete inventory of fine antique, vintage, and high-quality new furniture and home decor accents. Then take 15% off everything in your shopping basket when you enter the coupon code: SummerFun

Vintage Summer Style and Antique Furniture

We have just crossed the halfway point of the year (can you believe it?) and it seems like a good time to look back on our best vintage summer style and antique furniture posts from the last four months. Here are our favorite home decor stories to inspire you!

Silver Spoon Chandelier Pendant Light FixtureEarly in the spring we heard that Consumer Reports magazine would feature one of our upcycled vintage chandeliers in their Kitchen Planning and Buying Guide.

We were delighted as our spoondeliers and pretty vintage teacup and spoon chandeliers are very popular and they are made by an artisan right here in the USA.

Read the whole Silver Spoon Chandelier in Consumer Reports story with photos from client homes.

Antique Chairs and TableIt’s always a joy to write our client spotlights about the new and antique furniture our customers bought from us and how great it looks in their homes. This one really caught our attention though, with antique French Renaissance chairs, the famous Aztec calendar stone and the singer Axl Rose, of the band Guns N’ Roses! To top it off, our client Bernard, who told us this great story, also lives in Hawaii with fantastic views.

Art Deco Buffet 18-33We recently received a container of antique furniture from France that included some amazing Art Deco buffets. We chose these buffets and sideboards because we love the look of Art Deco furniture and the pieces are exceptional.

They all have the spirited glamor and glitz of the Art Deco era, as well as the sophistication and craftsmanship that we expect from French furniture makers of the 1930s.

So I wrote a post about Classic Art Deco Style using these Art Deco buffets as examples to point up the features of this period of furniture. I’d love to hear if you enjoy this style as much as we do!

Jonathan Charles Home Office FurnitureWhen everyone was busy with spring cleaning and tax time (yay – that’s behind us for another year!) I wrote a series of blog posts about beautiful home office decor.

It was fun to think about how to create an enjoyable home office, from picking the perfect desk to choosing home office accents.

Top Grain Leather Sofa Antique LookI also got lucky and picked up some great tips about different types of leather and leather furniture care from one of the leather furniture makers that we work with.

They are a small family business and so they have time to chat and correspond with me and give me info and advice. So I passed that on to our blog readers in my post about Top-Grain vs. Split-Grain Leather and Leather Furniture Care. Read that and you’ll know how to take care of your favorite leather furniture. You’d be surprised at some of the mistakes people make!

mediterraneanflowerpotMy final favorite blog post recently was inspired by Mother’s Day! I made up a bunch of flower pots and hanging baskets for my mom and that made me think about Great Ways to Decorate the Garden with Flower Pots.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my favorite vintage style and antique furniture blog posts as much as I enjoy sharing them with you!

Art Deco Buffets: Classic Art Deco Style

Art Deco Buffet 18-33A while ago I wrote about how to identify Art Deco furniture and decorative items in my post: What is the Art Deco Style of Antiques?   We recently had a container shipped from France with some beautiful antique Art Deco buffets and they are such fine examples of Art Deco, I’m using those pieces to show you more details of the style.

As a reminder, the Art Deco style was popular in the 1920s and 1930s, reflecting the modern thinking of the Jazz Age and a new taste for sleek and streamlined furniture and architecture.

Prominent and well-defined curves and lines are key elements of the style. This curvy 1920 Art Deco buffet (right, item 18-33) is a fabulous example,

Art Deco Buffet 18-25The hotels of Miami’s South Beach and Manhattan’s iconic Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building are great examples of Art Deco architecture. Applied decoration is also important to the Art Deco look, including stylized floral designs, sunbursts, and geometrics.

This 1920 buffet (item 18-25) from our recent shipment creates a striking architectural silhouette with the curved posts supporting the upper hutch. Elegant floral carvings across the doors add a decorative accent, as do the dramatic metal handles. It is simply impossible to ignore the attention-grabbing allure of an authentic Art Deco buffet. Although the style is streamlined, it is not shy!

Art Deco Buffet Antique 18-38Part of the sleek appeal of Art Deco furniture lies in the use of glossy and shiny materials, including glass, mirror, lacquered finishes and metals. That reflective edge creates much of the glamor we associate with Art Deco. It always looks ready for a party! This walnut buffet dating to 1920 (item 18-38) has plenty of gloss in the mirror-backed upper hutch with a glass door. The mirror panel in the center of the buffet behind the posts reflects light too, above the impressive red/black/grey marble counter. Shine up your chrome cocktail shaker and dress up in your finest Roaring Twenties outfit!

French Art Deco Buffet 18-35Marble had been used in architecture since ancient times, of course, but when Art Deco furniture makers started using it, it added that opulence we expect of Art Deco. It is luxurious, but in a very modern way. This French Art Deco buffet (item 18-35) boasts three slabs of black marble as counters in addition to the mirrored back and glass-front cabinet. By now, you’ll recognize that the bold linear design on the cabinet front, topped by carved exotic foliage, is typical of the Art Deco style.

Marble on Art Deco Buffet 18-35Here’s a close-up of the black marble, so you can see how attractive the pattern is against the curving carved posts.

To see more of the exceptional design details from this era, take a look at all our antique Art Deco Buffets. It’s is appropriate that they are French buffets because Art Deco was named after the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs held in Paris in 1925. This event showcased many of the exciting new designs.

You might also enjoy my post about our customer Betty in Florida who bought an Art Deco buffet for her unusual vintage home!

Art Deco BuffetThis is just one of the selection of beautiful Art Deco buffets that arrived in our new container of antiques from France.

Dating to 1920, this curvy beauty is a superb example of Jazz Age opulence, carved in walnut wood with exotic fruits and foliage. The counter top is dramatic black and white marble to create a sexy surface for your martini glasses. The mirror back between the top hutch and the lower cabinet also adds glamor. The glass door cabinet at top lets you show off your Art Deco collectibles.

Shine up your cocktail shaker and prepare to party! Antique French Gothic Cabinet

For something completely different and very special, this extraordinary antique French Gothic cabinet is sure to be the signature piece in any room. The 1850 antique French Gothic cabinet is intricately carved in oak. It looks like it should live in a medieval castle (maybe it did, some time over the last 170 years!) but at 53 inches high it’s also nicely sized for a modern home.

Set Vintage French Dining Chairs 1930Among the super sets of vintage and antique dining chairs that just arrived, this set of 6 pretty French Rococo chairs is a feast for the eyes. The Louis XV Rococo dining chairs date to about 1930. If you have been searching for a contemporary table lamp with classic appeal, this new Cyan Design Lindley Table Lamp could be your perfect spring fling!

Standing nearly 3 feet high, the iron and wood lamp makes a gorgeous visual impression, with all those elegant swirls and flourishes. The burlap shade has a nice textural effect too. The rectangular shape of the lamp – just under 8 inches deep – makes it a good choice for a slender table where you need a lamp that can be tucked back a little. It looks fabulous but it doesn’t have a big round base or shade that is going to intrude too much on your surface space!

Picking the Perfect Desk For Your Traditional Home Office

My last blog post was about Creating a Beautiful Home Office and today I’ll zone in on picking the perfect desk, whether you have a home office or not! A desk needs to combine function with good looks.  There’s no point have a desk that looks amazing if it doesn’t provide the storage and work space you need. It’s also miserable having a desk that is adequately functional if you don’t take pleasure every single time you sit down to use it. Life is too short!

Antique French Gothic DeskThe Unique Antique DeskIf you love antiques and want a true original in your home office, then an antique desk is a joy to use as it carries so much history. This one is an antique French Gothic desk that we currently have in stock, dating to 1850 and heavily carved in solid oak. It hides a little surprise as the antique Gothic desk has been gently modernized for the 21st century. Someone added a slide-out wooden keyboard tray that blends so well, you’d think it was original!

Vintage French Country DeskThe Vintage French Desk. If you love French Country style and prefer a lighter wood desk, this gorgeous 1950 vintage French Country secretary desk is a great choice. The golden oak is very nicely carved and it’s well-sized for today’s interiors at just under 3 feet wide. If you want a French Country desk, then features to look for include sweet little cabriole legs, and elegant but simple carvings like the heart-shaped swag on this pull-down desk front.

Scarborough House Partners DeskThe Partners Desk. Sometimes only a very substantial partners desk will do! We now carry antique-inspired furniture by Scarborough House. Their high-quality, hand-crafted pieces include a wide choice of desks like this oval Scarborough House partners desk. The handsome brass handles, crotch mahogany and a leather surface make it an impressive addition to your study, home office or professional office.  If you buy a partners desk, always pick the handsomest and highest quality desk that you can as it will pay you back over the years. A good desk endorses your professional image to clients and business colleagues.

Ambella Home Modesto DeskThe Versatile Desk. If you don’t have a home office as such, then you might want a desk that blends in with your living space. This Ambella Home Modesto desk is a good example. The antique-inspired desk features lots of ornate carving detail, a generous desk surface and drawer storage space to keep the room free from clutter. But when you aren’t writing at your desk it just looks like a lovely decorative piece of furniture. Pop a bowl of flowers on top to add to the accent table effect!

carborough House Sheraton DeskThe Lots of Nooks and Crannies Desk. Sometimes you don’t need tons of storage space but you do want lots of separate compartments to keep everything well organized! This Scarborough House Sheraton Writing Desk is a charming example. Aside from all the drawers and cubbies, the exquisitely crafted crotch mahogany desk looks amazing. The brass handles and leather writing surface make it seem so authentic. I think that Jane Austen would have been at home writing Pride and Prejudice at this desk!

Handpainted desk Jonathan CharlesThe Artist’s Desk. If beauty triumphs over all in your home office, then you are probably looking for a highly decorative desk that makes you smile at its craftsmanship. (You’ll be happy to keep your documents tucked out of sight in a filing cabinet as long as the desk looks fantastic!) In that case, you have to admire this superb Jonathan Charles desk from the Kensington collection. The French style desk is hand-painted by Jonathan Charles artisans with gold floral detail across the pretty curved apron and legs. A dark leather inlaid writing surface tempts you to stay all day. There is one drawer to keep your favorite pens and essential notes, but this gilded desk is more like a French Haute Couture dress. You buy it for the sheer wicked pleasure of it and because it makes you look so good!

Boy, now I am feeling very bored with my own desk that I’m writing this at! I hope you enjoy picking your perfect desk whatever style you like. Please leave a note in the comment box to tell me YOUR idea of a perfect desk!

Creating A Beautiful Home Office

Spring is the time of year when everyone organizes their home office, tidying up files and throwing out clutter! But the best home offices are as beautiful as they are functional. Your office should be a place where you can express your personality as well as work, manage  paperwork and finances, and receive clients!

Jonathan Charles furniture home officeThis stunning home office featuring antique-inspired furniture by Jonathan Charles is packed with personality! We love the Jonathan Charles furniture and home accents we carry because each piece is crafted to look authentic and last a lifetime, often using the same techniques that furniture makers used hundreds of years ago. The deep blue walls and colorful artwork in this office create an eclectic effect paired with the traditional office furniture. The white upholstery and carpet are a little unexpected, adding another bright and sophisticated touch.

Jonathan Charles Home Office FurnitureThis home office, again decorated with a Jonathan Charles desk and other furniture is notable for its gorgeous light and a clean uncluttered look. (I bet someone has been reading
Marie Kondo’s best-selling book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up!) The modern and airy look of the room is grounded by the substantial wood furniture and bold metal hardware. It shows how traditional furniture can be given a completely unique spin by a homeowner who is willing to mix up their styles a bit and combine pieces they love. A large plant in the corner also makes an office so much more welcoming and we love the faux zebra rug for a dash of exotic character!

Traditional home office

If you want to get truly arty, then how about this amazing traditional home office in Chicago? The domed ceiling boasts a custom-painted mural of the Mediterranean – once you spot Italy on the right of the ceiling fan you can figure out how the map falls into place. This is a splendidly designed room with wood paneling, wood plank floor, and huge windows too, but even if you don’t have such a fabulous space to work in, you can take a few tips. Choose a couple of comfortable and very handsome leather sofas for relaxed business conversations, Add a colorful tapestry or rug and plenty of book on the shelves and you’re set!

This traditional home office in Washington D.C. is actually quite streamlined and simple when you look closely, but it creates a strong impression because of the club style leather chairs and the impressive antique-inspired desk.  The high vaulted ceiling helps to add architectural interest, but the main thing that creates decorative appeal at ceiling level is the large chandelier lighting.  A chandelier always makes a statement and sets the tone for a room.

I hope that these beautiful home offices have given you some ideas on how to jazz up your own office this spring! In my next post, I’ll share some of my favorite antique and antique-inspired desks and other home office furniture and decor accents to make your office beautiful and beautifully organized too!

Best of January 2016: Beautiful Homes & Decor

We jumped into 2016 in a very busy way, unpacking a new container of antique furniture that arrived from France just before Christmas! We were busy on our Letters from EuroLux antiques and home decor blog too, admiring our customer’s houses, exploring the new color trends for the year, and cooking up some traditional soups to keep us all warm!

Vintage teaspoon chandelier in kitchenHere’s a round-up of our January blog posts in case you were too busy to see them at the time. You can turn the year back a few notches already and check them out now!

We started January by glancing back at our top 12 antiques and decor blog posts of 2015.

It was hard to choose just a few of our tours of customers’ homes and posts about antiques, home decor and other things that interest us like antiques-inspired travel and elegant entertaining, We hope you like the ones that we thought were the cream of the crop!

Lion Fountain CourtyardThen we gave you a mini tour of this lovely house in Georgia that has the look of a French chateau. We delivered a Regency style vintage French games table and chairs set here to our customers Nita and Walter and we took the opportunity to admire the house inside and out! The courtyard pictured left has a charming lion’s head fountain on the attractive brick wall. Step inside and see the rest!

Pella Victorian VillaOur second client spotlight this month took us to the historic Pella Victorian Villa in Iowa.

We sold two antique tables and some handsome antique French Hunting chairs to the homeowner Stan and we took the time to find out more about the interesting history of the house. We also learned about Pella Historical Village, which (true to its Dutch heritage) is home of the annual Tulip Time tulip festival. Read all about it in the Pella Victorian Villa Client Spotlight.

Blue and Pink Floral TraditionalI always like to write about home decor trends but especially at the beginning of the year it’s fun to look at the latest ideas for the year ahead. In my series of posts on color trends I took a look at the Pantone pink and blue colors of the year for 2016 and the interesting ways you can use these tranquil tones in home decor.

Scarborough House Demilune tableWe also welcomed two new collections of furniture and home accents to our online store so I introduced you to the Stunning Home Decor from Scarborough House and Cyan Design.

These exceptional collections include hand-crafted and antique-inspired furniture with the finest veneers, plus spectacular lighting that has been featured in Elle Decor magazine!

Dowager enjoys soupFinally, as part of the country braced against winter storms and much of the country settled in to enjoy the final season of Downton Abbey, we took the advice of the Dowager Countess of Grantham who famously said, “Every good lady’s maid should know how to make a restorative broth.” No, I didn’t get myself a lady’s maid, but I did blog about some traditional Old Country soups from Europe to warm everyone up! Try Cock-A-Leekie, Beef and Barley, hearty Flemish Waterzooi and more in the Traditional European Soups post.

I hope 2016 will be a wonderful year for you – keep checking back to read more about traditional decor and fine antiques for regular folks!

Top 12 Antiques and Home Decor Blog Posts 2015: Part 2

Last week I gave you a roundup of six of our most popular home decor and antiques blog posts of 2015. Here’s Part 2 with the remaining six of our (and your) favorite 12 posts from last year. It’s been fun seeing all the things we talked about in 2015 – we hope you enjoy seeing the highlights too. Happy new year!

7. Romantic Teacup and Spoon Chandelier

Vintage teaspoon chandelier in kitchenEveryone loved seeing our customer Marie-Louise’s romantic vintage kitchen in Haute-Normandie, France. Marie-Louise bought a new, custom-made vintage teacup and spoon chandelier from us. (It’s one of our many upcycled chandeliers, hand-crafted for us by an artisan from vintage components.)

See the photos of her characterful French kitchen in the story about The Vintage Teacup Chandelier.

Kelley in Houston, TX, was another customer who bought one of the whimsical chandeliers, but as this story shows, she changed out the vintage tea cups for large double espresso coffee cups!

8. Charming Cottage style

antique French dining chairs RenaissanceThis charming old cottage next to a babbling brook is owned by our customers Lenore and John. They only bought it recently and they picked several pieces of antique furniture from us to furnish it. Their selection included a beautifully carved antique French Henry II buffet, vintage French Renaissance dining chairs, and a pretty Louis XVI buffet for the bedroom suite.

It all looks very impressive — as well as very cozy — against the exposed logs in the mountain cabin, as you can see from the photos in the Cottage Style with Antique Furniture post.

9. Choosing Antique-Inspired Furniture

demilune regency sideboardI’ve written before about how to buy antique furniture online, but sometimes people need advice on buying high-quality reproduction or antique-inspired furniture too. It can be overwhelming to know what to look for as a sign of good quality. My post on Choosing Antique-Inspired Furniture describes three important elements to consider when you are shopping!

10. Beach Style Decor

Beach Style Living RoomThis summer I was inspired to write a series of posts about Beach Style Decor from sea shell decor to coastal cottage accents. This breezy series is full of ideas to create your nautical home, or perhaps just a single room that feels like a vacation… with a refreshing dash of casual chic and a sunny atmosphere to cheer even the coldest day!

11. English Castle Hotels

Leeds Castle EnglandSpeaking of vacations, I had a great time (and spent a lot of imaginary travel dollars) writing about English Castle Hotels. These unique locations are full of English history, lore and legends for a very special overnight stay. Everyone feels like royalty! I also wrote about ways to stay at Leeds Castle in England. This incredible castle, sometimes called “The Loveliest Castle in the World,” needed a whole post to itself to do it justice!

12. Yard Yoga at our Vintage Bungalow

Spring2015 planting the front yardBack in the U.S.A., our own vintage 1920s bungalow in historic Newberry, South Carolina is our castle!  We’re pleased with all our progress on our “new” old home, as you can see in our series on The Vintage Life. Blog readers and friends of our page on Facebook have been very encouraging,  making positive comments on everything from our tiling adventures to the cat porch we built.

But as it’s the middle of winter, I’m going to pick out a summery landscaping post: April Showers bring May Flowers to show off just how lovely the garden has grown! Greg and I love puttering in the garden – it’s so relaxing to be outside, digging in the dirt. I like to call it yard yoga. We’re looking forward to this year’s yard yoga and this year’s flowers… we hope you have a flourishing 2016 too!

If you missed Part 1 of our top 12 blog posts of 2015, you can see the other six here.

Top 12 Antiques and Home Decor Blog Posts 2015: Part 1

It’s that time again! We’re reviewing our antiques and home decor blog posts from 2015 and it’s very hard to pick just a dozen of the most popular stories of the year.

Before we start, we’re grateful for all our good news this year. We received many honors from Houzz.com including a Best of Houzz 2015 award for customer satisfaction and service. Our upcycled vintage spoon chandeliers were featured on a TV show and we expanded and beautified our booth at the Antique Tobacco Barn in Asheville, NC.

There’s more good news too, but let’s look at the first six of our favorite 12 antiques and home decor blog posts of 2015. We’ll share the rest in our next post welcoming the new year.

1. Antique French Furniture in Newberry Mansion

Greco-Roman mansion in Newberry, SCWe always appreciate customers who return to us to buy antique, vintage, and new furniture and home decor accents, and then send us photos for our series of client  spotlights so we can see how their purchases look in their home!

Of the many that stand out from 2015, one is this gorgeous mansion filled with antique furniture chosen by our customer Tamra. In the blog post about the Newberry Mansion you’ll see the inside tour with pieces Tamra bought from us including a French Country table, antique Hunting chairs and antique Mechelen buffets.

2. The Search for the Perfect Vintage French Sheepbone Chairs

Vintage French Sheepbone ChairsThe story about the 1950 vintage French Sheepbone chairs in Veritta’s home in California was also a happy one for us because Veritta said she bought her dining table 10 years ago but she has been waiting all this time to find the perfect chairs!
See for yourself how right she was to wait for the perfect match, and also find out about the carved sheepbone style and why it’s named that way!

3. Vintage Life Cat Porch: Build It and The Cats Will Come

Evening on the Cat PorchIn our ongoing saga about the renovation of our 1920s vintage bungalow, we made sure we created a special space for the cats too! Our story and photos about our cat porch was one of the most popular posts this year. Everyone enjoys sitting in this “cat paradise” screened porch.

Since then we also adopted a new little tiger cat, Pumpkin to join our family of (now) 9 cats and dogs. Meet her and read about how Pumpkin arrived during Hurricane Joachim.

4. Romantic Victorian Inns

The Oaks Victorian InnJust in time for Valentine’s Day I took a virtual trip to Romantic Victorian Inns around the country. These four inns are great for a romantic getaway at any time of the year. The inns are decorated with period Victorian or Victorian style decor, adding to the charm of your stay!

5. Decorating with Mirrored Furniture

Ambella Home Casablanca chest mirroredTying in with the Hollywood Regency trend and the always-popular Art Deco look, I took the opportunity to shine a light on Decorating with Mirrored Furniture.

As you’ll see in the story, mirrored furniture can be subtle, it doesn’t have to be a bling-fest. Sophisticated new or antique mirrored furniture not only looks sleek and luxurious, it can also create clever illusions to brighten and expand a room.

6. How to Display a Collection

Pic: Other Metro Media/Bloggers Go Make Me

Pic: Other Metro Media/Bloggers Go Make Me

I enjoyed putting together this series on how to display a collection. It gave me the chance to explore the very creative ways different people organize and display their ceramics, jewelry, and other collections from vintage model trains to classic cameras.

Later, we also had a chance to show off my mother-in-law Kathy’s huge collection of pilgrims and other Thanksgiving-themed objects. You can see Kathy’s impressive collection of more than 700 pieces at the link.

I hope these highlights of the year provide you with some inspiration or just a little fun as you browse through.

Happy new year everyone! If you enjoyed this, see the rest of our picks for the year! Here’s the link for the Part 2 final six of our top 12 decor and antiques blog posts of 2015.

Things We Love: New Container of Antiques for Christmas!

Container of French Antique FurnitureChristmas came early at EuroLux this year! When a new container of antique furniture from France lands with us, it is like Christmas – and this time, it happened at Christmas!

We’ve been waiting with excitement for our latest selection of vintage and antique furniture to sail its way across the Atlantic ocean and finally the boat arrived.

It quickly cleared customs and we were told the container was on its way to us for the final leg of its long journey.

The 40-foot container arrived as promised and right on time at 8 a.m.

We were ready to start unpacking  and it took four of us about three and a half hours to unload it – I think that was a new record for us!

Unpacking French Antique furniture

We had quite a few sets of French antique chairs arriving on the container. At a rough calculation, I think we bought about 45 chairs in all. Here’s Greg carrying one of the chairs inside, He’s still smiling at this point. One chair down, another 44 to go!

Unwrapping antique French furniture

While Greg, Frank and John Earl finished carrying all the furniture off the container, I set to work unwrapping everything.

It actually looks like an antique explosion happened because all of the large furniture comes apart in pieces and each piece is meticulously wrapped in bubble wrap, corrugated cardboard and tied with twine.

We put in a full day’s work, but it will take another two weeks to get it all unwrapped, cleaned, waxed, and rebuilt in the EuroLux Home Gallery. We’ll tell you more later about the amazing pieces we received including some fabulous Art Deco buffets! But for now it will have to wait because it really is Christmas week! At time of writing, Greg and I are sneaking off to our favorite getaway for a few days of much-needed R & R and then we’ll spend the rest of the week with family.

I hope you enjoy your holidays too!
