EuroLux Home on Pinterest

Antiques in the homeGreg and I have had a Pinterest account for EuroLuxHome.com for a long time, but recently we have been pinning a lot more. We’ve been pintastic!   If you want to pin any of the photos in this blog post. just click on the photo to be taken directly to the original Pinterest photo.

We’ve added a lot of new Pinterest home decor and stylish living boards covering all kinds of areas including Antique and Vintage for the Home, to showcase some of the best antiques from our store but also ways to live with antique furniture.

For example, this fabulous image of stylish heiress Ann Getty’s home in San Francisco. This emerald green room is packed with antique furniture and treasures, as featured in HarpersBazaar.com

Scarborough House Hall TreeWe also highlight some of our favorite new furniture, for example, this superb new Scarborough House Hall Tree or Coat Rack available in our online store, crafted in fine myrtle burl with lovely decorative carving, handsome brass accents and a large mirror.

Some of our boards are dedicated to specific spaces in the home. We have boards on beautiful bedrooms, stunning bathrooms, impressive and inviting hallways and entryways, vintage kitchens, home bars, and traditional offices.

We also have boards full of fabulous images of specific styles of antique furniture and the most popular home decor styles.

Country Farmhouse furniture and decorFor example, Rococo furniture and decor, antique French Brittany furniture, antique French Hunting style, Louis XV furniture and decor, VIctorian Style, Art Deco, and Mid-Century Modern.

Whatever your taste, you will find a style board to follow! This is an image from the Country Farmhouse Furniture board, which makes us all want to sit down at that charming table and share a glass of French wine!

We hope that if you are Pinterest you will not only follow us but leave a message on one of our images to tell us you are a customer or blog reader…. then we can make sure we follow you back!

Yellow RoomOther boards include design ideas that we love, and simply delicious food, drink and recipes. Some boards are dedicated to color schemes, for example red rooms and interiors, blue decor, and yellow rooms.

This buttery yellow formal living room works really well with the darker antique and paintings and the screen in the corner, and the paint color is Benjamin Moore HC-4 Hawthorne, if you would like to know!

We are keen gardeners, so we also have a board on beautiful gardens. This board shows some of our garden photos but mainly it is of gorgeous gardens around the world, and also great ideas for landscaping and making the garden even lovelier! This wheelbarrow planter makes me look forward to summer!

WHeelbarrow planterOf course we have a travel board too, which especially focuses on Europe because we travel so much in Europe to buy antiques to ship back to the USA!

FranceAnd yes, you know we have to have a “we love pets!” board, to show off our own furry brood of cats and dogs but also to share other pinners’ photos of cute pets. Here’s our Lenny, helping out with the laundry!Lenny CatWe hope you will follow EuroLuxHome.com on Pinterest – we look forward to seeing you there and pinning up a storm!

Transitional Style Decor: The Best of Both Worlds

One of the most popular and versatile interior decor styles, the Transitional style is elegant and harmonious, drawing on the best of both traditional decor and contemporary looks. This school of design offers both the warmth and classic appeal of traditional homes, but updates the look with contemporary clean lines.

Alden Parkes Transitional Dining ChairStreamlined silhouettes and gentle curves create a sophisticated atmosphere that strikes a nice balance between casual and formal, masculine and feminine.

Furniture such as chairs, tables and sideboards will feel familiar and comfortable in that they draw on traditional furniture, but the profile, finishes and upholstery will be pared down to give that contemporary edge.

The furniture will create interest through the use of high-quality materials and crisp and strong design, like this Alden Parkes dining chair in our online store and the San Maria gray Transitional console below.

San Maria Console Transitional
There are no fancy curlicues and frilly or ornate carvings and embellishments in the Transitional style!

The color palette tends to be neutral, including cream, taupes and browns, gray, and grayed out greens and blues. Monochromatic color schemes are tonally layered to create interest without visual clutter.

Jonathan Charles Wine TableThe understated effect might be given a hint of color with a few artworks or accessories, such as a bold jewel color or a tangy citrus tone or a pretty pastel on a throw pillow, lamps, or vase. But this is kept to the minimum rather than having many pops of color punctuating the space.

This bold red Jonathan Charles wine table is a perfect example of Transitional style.

Furniture Classics Bar StoolTextiles and upholstery are usually a solid color or very subtle design, rather than a big or fussy pattern. The design interest comes from textures!

Fabrics for upholstery and soft furnishings often combine textures including natural fabrics, slubbed linens and coarse weaves, and the mixture of matte and shiny surfaces. In this way, though the neutral colors might be the same, the effect is layered. This creates a lot of depth and an inviting mood.

This Furniture Classics bar stool with a chocolate brown weave is a perfect example of the textured neutral look.

Displays of ornaments and artwork treasures are usually fairly restrained, with a well-edited display of a few pieces that serve as focal points, rather than the more traditional approach of displaying a lot of pieces across many surfaces.

Strong, simple and serene are the watchwords for this light and easy Transitional decor style. We have many beautiful pieces of high-quality Transitional style furniture and home accessories in our online store, so browse around and get inspired!

Paint Color Decor Trends 2018: Bold Strong Jewels and Spice

For 2018 paint color trends, some paint companies have opted for bold and strong colors as their 2018 Color of the Year. I recently blogged about the Nautical Greens and Blues as Colors of the Year chosen by some paint companies, but there is a whole other rainbow of colors out there too! These include spicy red and jeweled purple, and even deep black.

Nobody is expected to redecorate just to incorporate the annual Colors of the Year, but it’s good to see the new color picks and think about how they might enliven our own decor, even just in accents and details.

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, Caliente AF-290, is a strong and radiant red that provides an injection of energy. Red is a traditional color for a dining room as it is said to stimulate appetite.

The color also gives a sense of warmth and drama to this bathroom. We can imagine Caliente working beautifully in a traditional home, but it would also look clean and strong in a contemporary interior design scheme too.

Pantone has gone purple crazy with its 2018 Color of the Year: Ultra Violet.

Pantone Ultra Violet Color of the Year

In interiors, this expressive color can create an Old World intense cocoon mood if used on multiple walls, or it can conjure up a romantic Boho feel. In a modern interior it could look dramatic and a little bit edgy. It will certainly draw attention to itself, whether used as a wall color or as an accent in furniture or throw cushions and drapes.

Deep Onyx Color of the Year

Glidden opted for the dark charcoal grey tone called Deep Onyx as its Color of the Year.  The color looks crisp and clean in a modern setting, especially paired with white. But, as with the Ultra Violet color, we can also see it as a great choice for a traditional home that wants to evoke an Old World feel. Picture it creating a slightly Dickensian London look in a library or masculine home office!  It is a good idea to hang sizeable art or other decorative elements on the walls to punctuate the Deep Onyx color, otherwise too large an expanse of black could look heavy. The dining room above does a great job with the white plates hanging on the wall. In a traditional room you could hang gilt framed artwork.

What do you think of these bold and strong colors? Do you have colors like this in your home? We’d love to see photos!

Newberry Groove ‘N BrewFest

Groove n brew logo NewberryThe first ever Groove ‘N BrewFest is a 1970s/80s music and craft beer festival that will rock Downtown Newberry, SC, on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

I am excited about it because I am Vice-President of the Newberry Downtown Development Association, a collection of enthusiastic residents, business and property owners who want to make Downtown Newberry a better place.

Earlier this year, we held a retreat where we challenged ourselves to do something really big to improve our local economy. We decided that if our local historic theatre, The Ritz, was a fully-functioning business as a concert venue/movie theatre, that it would significantly increase foot traffic Downtown, which would in turn, attract more businesses to locate here.

So we decided to hold a street festival as a fundraiser to collect a pool of funds for economic development grants. We are hoping that the Newberry Community Players, who own The Ritz Theatre, will be our first grantees. We’d like to be able to purchase them a permanent sound system so that they can have more events, raise more money, and little by little restore and revitalize this historic Art Deco building from 1936.

This is the story behind Groove ‘N BrewFest — a 70s/80s music and craft beer festival that will happen on Saturday, April 7th from 1 pm to 10 pm in Downtown Newberry. We will have 25 regional craft beers and a wide variety of food trucks.

humanbowling Newberry SC

I am also excited about the games – human bowling, a giant Operation game, and a bungee jumporee where you can jump 20 feet in the air – that should be a lot of laughs!

Greg has headed up the music committee and we’ll have bands playing 70s and 80s music on an outside stage all day. J-E-T opens the day from 1 to 5 pm.

All festival-goers are encourage to dress in 70s/80s duds, so we’ll have karaoke and costume contests hosted by Z93, a local Columbia radio station, between 5 and 6 pm. From 6 to 10 pm, 121 Band will continue to rock out your favorite 70s/80s hits.

The festival and outside music is free.

Inside The Ritz Theatre, our headliner bands will play for an additional ticket. Heartbreaker is a Heart/Led Zeppelin tribute band and they will play from 6 to 8 pm. Rumours ATL is a Fleetwood Mac tribute band and they will play from 8 to 10 pm. Greg and I have traveled quite a few times around the Southeast to see Rumours ATL as they are excellent and really give a great show! If you love Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, you will have a fantastic time! Advance purchase tickets are selling fast as they are a great value: Get tickets here

A $40 Advanced purchase ticket includes the two tribute bands, an over-21 wristband with ID, a festival cup, and one craft beer. A $50 Advanced Purchase VIP ticket includes the two tribute bands, an over-21 wristband with ID, a festival cup, two craft beers, early access for best seating, and access to VIP bathrooms during the festival. A $50 Day-Of ticket includes the two tribute bands, an over-21 wristband with ID, and a festival cup (beer not included).

We have worked incredibly hard over the past three months to launch this new festival, which will actually be Newberry’s first green festival! It has been a labor of love and we really hope the community will come out and drink a beer with us to support our hard-work and help raise funds for economic development grants to make Downtown Newberry a better place! Come by Groove ‘N BrewFest and say hello!
